When's the novelization coming out?
Seems I'm going to have to play Halo 2 now... I've been putting it off to the Vista release that's supposed to happen at the end of the year. So, should I buy a 360 and spend hours trying to work out how to get it emulated, or steal my sister's xbox?Halo 2 works on Xbox 360 right out of the box, and with HD TV support too. No fiddling required. With split-screen multiplayer you can actually SEE things now ;)
sounds like ol' cortana is going rampant.
:eek2: GOOD ZARK! Whether or not one liked Halo 2 or not, that was a frelling awesome trailer. And I had thought Marty's music couldn't get any better...Seems I'm going to have to play Halo 2 now... Ghosts of Coral might come out end of October or so this year, according to Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0765315688/sr=1-1/qid=1147224948/ref=sr_1_1/102-1214201-5926543?%5Fencoding=UTF8). Dunno, but I'm looking forward to it. Bees! (http://www.ilovebees.com) !reveal: truth
hee, rampant... why do I keep expecting Cortana to say "iiiiii-insect" :D "Cit-Cit-Citadel Staaaaaaaaaaation"
I've looked around on the ilovebees website. Confusion was the only result.
Bill Gates, Microsoft's chairman, stated in a May 2005 Time Magazine interview that Halo 3 would be released as close to the PlayStation 3's launch as possible, to divert sales. "It's perfect," Gates said. "The day Sony launches [the new PlayStation], they walk right into Halo 3."

Microsoft prefer to compete against Sony, maybe they have other evil plans in mind for Nintendo...

It was all rather a letdown, really, from what i remember. Effective, but ultimately with any good ARG type scenario the ending always dissapoints compared to your imgination, and IIRC this was basically a set of phone messages.Eh, sort of. (Though sometimes the phone interactions were live, with "The Operator" [the computer] herself.) But the messages all meshed together to form a most intriguing story, quite well acted too, almost like those 'radio plays' of yore. I highly recommend checking it out (http://creepy.thebruce.ca/AxonScenes.asp). seek the truth behold the truth reveal the truth
I'm not sure, though if it shifted a single extra copy of Halo 2, although it almost certainly would have raised awareness.
Everyone's known that since Halo 2.
My main compliant against Halo 2 was that it decreased the scale of Halo; the battles were smaller, the areas they took place in more confined. It appears they've corrected this...

NB: watching that video; am i the only one who saw the end and thought 'engine'?
Not engine, an Ark to save the universe from the flood.
That is a good point, but I don't think the allegory is that literal.
OMG...
The Ark... The Flood...
It's Genesis 6-9!
I don't get it...
and now... you know what i was implying. :pYour custom title has never suited you more than this exact moment.
So, is there going to be time travel in Halo 3? With the Master Chief going back to the first firing of the Halos or something? Because there was that whole weird deal about Guilty Spark saying "last time you asked me, would I do it" and "why hesitate to do what you have already done".If they introduce time-travel, the Bungie will lose a considerable amount of respect from... everyone...

I don't really recall when GS says those things, but I believe it's probably in the same strain of calling Master Chief and the marines 'the reclaimers', as they're obviously the decendants of the Forerunners, hence they've 'done this before' in a manner of speaking.

The second I saw the Flood, and knowing how Bungie loves their rampant AIs, I've been wondering if in the end her plan is to use the Flood to expand her own processing power and consume all life.
It'd fit with the statements in the letter.
Of course Master Chief pulling the switch and sterilizing the galaxy would make for a nice ending, but without the possibility for too many spinoffs ;)
the ark, it might be a shielded area from the halo's wrathThe question is, whether or not the Ark is the structure in the trailer, or the entire planet, with that structure being a shield generator or something. I mean, the sterilisation of a large portion of the Galaxy save for Earth - with the Master Chief pulling the switch - would be one hell of an ending.
Depends if Microsoft or Bungie has the last word on the storyline. If Bungie has a free hand ... anything can happen at the end.And if Microsoft are calling the shots, we can expect to see the chronicles of John 118 in Q4 2008.

Pretty much sums up my attitude on Bungie at the moment. :)
I had thought bungie had out-and-said they were working on a new IP (or at least, not a Halo game), myself, directly contradicting Bill Gates' comments at the 360s launch about Halo 3, etc.
Kara already posted a link to that, Ghostavo :)
It's not widely known, but FTL automatically means timetravel capability (Check out Project Rho for details.)
The whole thing boils down to the fact that FTL contradicts either of these:
a) Relativistic physics (ergo if there is FTL, then Einstein's theory is wrong) - not likely AFAIK
b) Casuality (the cause precedes the effect) - could be...
OR:
c) There is a galactic censure that prevents paradoxons - actually there is evidence for this too...
There are two ways
a) You can't change the past...or the future. You play your part in the events, but once playout, things are set in stone. (censure case)
b) Time is not linear and there are more paralel timelines with different histories. (void casuality case). Thius pretty much means that the fate of the universe doesn't really matter to anyone who can do FTL (aahh screw it....let's start over.)
With a linear, unchangeable timeline you can have a meaningful story. (Without the overplayed, but improbable scenario of alternate histories casued by meddling with time) This setup also raises questions of fate, and choice - but not in the idiotic, "catchword" phrase pile of <cenzored> manner the Matrix raised it.
Can I change history? Apparantly I can't....or can I? I can't change events....but I can always insert new ones.
Could someone with the 720p/high-res trailer do me an awesome favor and take a screencap of the following moment?(will use lvlshot tags once they're up and running properly)
True FTL travel would really do one of those two. But if you create a pathway between point A and B that is shorter than normal space between A and B, you can travel from A to B through this passage. And although this looks like FTL when viewed from normal space, you never exceed the speed of light actually, and causality doesn't break because light from point A always travels to point B faster than you, also along the passage created between jump points. If you're talking about something comparable to subspace jumps or wormholes, well that isn't FTL. Not even close. I believe he's talking about the literal meaning of FTL, as in to exceed the speed of light, which Einstien presents as a nigh-on impossiblity, y'know, the whole mass becoming infinite thang. Jumping through a wormhole or subspace or 'warp' isn't actually exceeding the Speed of Light, even though outside perception may suggest it, and thus doesn't even factor into the arguement.
This is what happens in Trek, Star Wars, Babylon 5, Freespace and actually most sci-fi franchises. Even Battlestar Galactica does this, I believe (because the opposite possibility would indeed be counter-physical and thus would bleed reliability from otherwise very good and realistic series).

It also uses a global lighting system, and the entire valley/crater is mesh. That's 3 miles.
Does that matter? I made the text small on purpose.
Really, that post was just an excuse to sound smart. ::)
Until we have actually built a spaceship with "true FTL" that works, we don't know (for certain) if it actually involves time travel or not because we don't have true FTL. We have some theories floating around, but nobody's built anything that actually changes a human-occupied craft's position faster than light can move.
Given our current physics knowledge, I think that it's still impossible to literally travel FTL because of the infinite thrust thing. Except in odd circumstances with extremely small particles.
Finally - a high(-er) res full body shot of the chief.I was wondering when I saw the trailer, what exactly is that ring-shaped wreckage in the background?

Bungie's official word is that wreckage is from the space elevator that used to rise above New Mombasa.

Halo 2. Not that it really counts as an ending.
Uh, that isn't an explosion at all. That's a discharge of energy. And little explosions do not count. We're talking BIG explosions.
Halo3 is the final in the trilogy. Not sure what they're working on next.

I certainly wouldn't say the stuff they decided to cut was better than the stuff they left in, I mean some of the shots where the greater landscape was in view looked pretty generic, and the shot of Elites running looked pretty standard too. But, I got to see what I wanted, that orgasmic music being scored... oooooh yeah
