Re: Halo 3 - for real...
Back to the topic at hand.

Anyone remember the Cortana letters? Back when Halo was known as Blam!.

I have walked the edge of the Abyss.
I have governed the unwilling.
I have witnessed countless empires break before me.
I have seen the most courageous soldiers fall away in fear.
[I was there with the Angel at the tomb]
I have seen your future.
And I have learned.

There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy.

I HAVE WON.

Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.

And finally they have come full-circle.

Re: Halo 3 - for real...
So, is there going to be time travel in Halo 3?  With the Master Chief going back to the first firing of the Halos or something?  Because there was that whole weird deal about Guilty Spark saying "last time you asked me, would I do it" and "why hesitate to do what you have already done".

If they introduce time-travel, the Bungie will lose a considerable amount of respect from... everyone...

I don't really recall when GS says those things, but I believe it's probably in the same strain of calling Master Chief and the marines 'the reclaimers', as they're obviously the decendants of the Forerunners, hence they've 'done this before' in a manner of speaking.

Actually... he has a point... Alot of it would make sense if there was seemingly a time loop...
But yeah, time travel... erh.
But yeah, I can see the chief dieing and it ending on some poem or phrases from Cortana...

Exactly. Flashbacks are sure as hell a possibility though.

play the first halo, he says a lot in the library.

mind you, he could be just talking about the chief's "reclaimer" predacessor, of whom i'd like to see some sort of further references to.

Re: Halo 3 - for real...
The second I saw the Flood, and knowing how Bungie loves their rampant AIs, I've been wondering if in the end her plan is to use the Flood to expand her own processing power and consume all life.

It'd fit with the statements in the letter.

Of course Master Chief pulling the switch and sterilizing the galaxy would make for a nice ending, but without the possibility for too many spinoffs ;)

The question is, whether or not the Ark is the structure in the trailer, or the entire planet, with that structure being a shield generator or something. I mean, the sterilisation of a large portion of the Galaxy save for Earth - with the Master Chief pulling the switch - would be one hell of an ending.

Re: Halo 3 - for real...
I think one hell of an ending wouldn't leave any survivors. I predict complete sterylization replete with new machinery recreating life from stored DNA.

Re: Halo 3 - for real...
Killing of the Master Chief would be like Nintendo killing Mario or Sony killing...er....... like Nintendo killing Mario.  i doubt they'd kill off their killer-app series.

Excluding prequels, of course.

Re: Halo 3 - for real...
Depends if Microsoft or Bungie has the last word on the storyline. If Bungie has a free hand ... anything can happen at the end.

And if Microsoft are calling the shots, we can expect to see the chronicles of John 118 in Q4 2008.

I had thought bungie had out-and-said they were working on a new IP  (or at least, not a Halo game), myself, directly contradicting Bill Gates' comments at the 360s launch about Halo 3, etc.

I'm sure they said it, but then the whips cracked and they were sent back to the mines again.
