In this MOD I used some Inferno, scooby's and aldo's ships.
So it's a time for first shot:

I've extracted all textures. It has a big hole when you're looking trough the cocpit. But in the bottom everything is okay :doubt: :hopping:

The most important one is Extras.dds (or possibly extras-1.dds) they should be located in the data\maps folder

The reason I usually don't tolerate cockpits is if they are for a sort of... sequel to the FS universe. If you're going for something different, a new special campaign, then I can tolerate cockpits (and even player characters to an extent), and I see that's what you're doing. Any campaign set in Sol is different.

It's my universe. You'll see Terrans(but no FS terrans, but my Terrans :) Shivans similar to oryginal version, Nightmares. But those species are only for Chapter one.
In chapter two you'll see two-three new sepecies.

I'll use some ships from TBP, or reskin ships by myself. Inferno is also good source of models.

Nope. It's a standard cap turret :P

That's right.
Railguns and turrets are similar in AIII.
Railguns have extra trails.
IT's only INFA effect for railgun and name.
My railguns have diffrent damage ect.

Hmmm... :drevil: you should find a way to stick a Pyro (like the hi-res one used with D2X-XL) in there.. that might be interesting, if you wanted. You'd prolly want to upgrade the cockpit, though.

In Apocalypse III you'll see only a three primary weapons for playere crafts.
Apocalypse IV will include about ~50 primaries.

Okay guys... so... I decided to rebuild all the MOD and add a ~15 new missions into campaign.
Previously MOD was inlcuding only four player ships - now its twelve. More secondaries, primaries and much more ;)
I've just started rebuilding all MOD :D

im working on a new weapon. and its going to use actualy projectiles., none of that flying texture crap used for the morning star :rolleyes:

Be careful what you label "crap"... I'm sure there was a reason for that.

if crap=old techniques used to get around hardware limitations at the time (take a look at 2d trees in n64 adventure games), then it is. having a models file for weapons allows for some creative element, sice your not limited in what the shape is either. to put it simply, the autogenereated lasers arent fitting in with all the new stuff. the subach can be a very nice looking laser, instead of a strecthed out pink thing. take a look at lightspeeds version....

even thought its a retexture, it just shows how much you can upgrade the look of weapons. now imagine thats as a model.

It's a "Shark" swarm missile with modified by me missile trail.
Default swarms six missiles.

Only if the enemy's coming at you head on, or if you do a charge (burn over and fire your salvo and then pull up before you collide).
I find Tornadoes more effective against fighters.

with the looks of those screenshots, my computer will crash the moment more than 5 ships jumps in. shinemaps are a major slowdown for me.

I love my new computer, my old one was really slow. Any model with more than 1000 polies would slow it down to a crawl (4.0 FPS). My new computer is much faster, the slowest rate I've gotten is 56 FPS (though I haven't done anything really stupid like blowing up loads of Shivan Comm. Nodes simultaneously yet ;)).
But for some reason, Inferno builds give me TWICE the FPS... :wtf:

Shiv - do you have 64bit CPU and use P4 Inferno build? That may be the case, if it's true, download the newest 64bit CVS from Recent Builds and should be better.

Shiv - do you have 64bit CPU and use P4 Inferno build? That may be the case, if it's true, download the newest 64bit CVS from Recent Builds and should be better.
I'm using official 3.6.9. I've got 32 bit processor.

It's a undercover mission as a someone said ;) A long time ago I was making polish Shivan Campaign, but all the files are lost :( Maybe I'll do it later after Apocalypse III ;)

No, I didn't, I will soon hopefully.. I've got to finish Derelict first; and I never finished ST either. I had heard you got to fly as the Shivans in that campaign, but maybe I'm mixing it up with another.

In Earth's fleet you'll see two type of destroyers:
- Nemesis - Only one Nemesis exists. It's heavy armored and dangerous. Nemesis is using Archangel MKII model.
- Genesis type destroyers. It's less armored and weaker than Nemesis. Genesis's are using Archangel MKI models.

Great, I hated the fact that in FS1 once you got shields you could fly into an entire fleet of enemies and kill all of them. Without shields I actually have to fight to survive. ::)
Another reason why I like FS1 more than FS2.

Uh, if there are weapons specificately designed to disrupt shields you can't be that sure of your victory.
You're surrounded by enemies, your shields are ok, then a shield disruptor missile hits you and you're vulnerable...

Yes, but shields recharge and damage disappears. However, when playing without shields, if you get hit, you can be severely damaged and be limping off for the rest of the mission. However, when you do have shields, when you get hit, your shields take most of the damage, yet, they recharge and you can go back in there. It makes you more cautious when fighting the enemy.

If your shields recharge quickly, your engines and weapons reactors are surely receiving a low amount of energy.
In Colony Wars, there were both primary and secondary weapons designed to destroy shields/hulls. I remember a "Two Stage Missile", a couple of missiles(one anti shield and one anti hull) that worked together. Obviously, the blue anti shield missiles generally was the first to hit the enemy ;)
And missions that take place in subspace usually are shields-free.

Yeah, but what you could do is gun in, blow everyone up, wait for your shields to recharge and go back in and blow up some more people. Without shields, you'd have to be cautious, dodge fire, stay on the move, stuff like that.
But there's only one subspace mission.

Either you fly a super Perseus or we're not thinking about the same kind of battle.
I intended the presence of cruisers(Aesacus class :P ), several other warship and fighters of all types. You're told to destroy turrets and you fly in the enemy's side of the battlefield. Escaping isn't that easy.
WCS works well too, dogfights are fluid.

You're giving for sure that in such a battle shields are equal to many times the hull integrity of the same ships, while they can double it's total hitpoints at max(there are some...exceptions, of course).
My point is that in some conditions, either escaping is useless or the enemy fire is too heavy. Shields don't make the difference.

Anyway, the main thing about FS1 was that when the Shivans appeared, we had NOTHING. They came with sensor arrays, shields, superior weapons... The works.

Making the Shivans invincible near the beginning of FS1 was undoubtely an excellent choice, but Shivans are terrible in FS2 too. Just think about the Ravana and the Sathanas fleet. They were superior to most Shivan forces the player faced in FS1. The Lucifer made a planet unhabitable...the Sathanes have made a star go Supernova, something both beautiful and fearsome.

As far as I know, Shiv is coming out with an original idea. He doesn't want to follow canon laws, his mod takes place in his own universe, and he isn't using shields. He is free to give the Lucifer blue shields :pimp:

Hmm, I know that, have a look at this... (view as a slideshow in IrfanView or similar program) EDIT: It's kind of funny seeing 11.7MB worth of BMPs squeezed down to 160 KB of JPGs and still being able to understand the pictures. :D

Yeah, I know about that - but seeing all the other inconsistencies in that intro, I tend to ignore it. The cbanis from FS1 are much more reliable (and don't use the hideously low detail in-game model). ;)
Edit: As to the shields question, no. I carefully considered adding a shield mesh in the way that DTP once did for the original, but decided against it because it's effectively doubling the number of collision checks the game would have to do.
The surface shields feature of the SCP was originally designed with the Lucifer in mind, though it's not quite complete yet. Goob is looking into getting it to display a shield impact effect when the surface shields take damage. As is, it just does the damage to the shield rather than the hull, which is kinda useless when we have special hitpoints.

Do we see blue/green beams impacting the atmosphere? We just see a beam hitting a city on the surface of Vasuda Prime. Also, the beam looks different...the atmosphere might have changed it's "structure".

Anyways, I've heard the theory that the atmosphere changes the beam's color, which is quite possible. The only other explanation that I can think of is that the beam has two modes; one for planetary bombardment, and one for ship to ship combat. (Maybe it has to focus the beam on a different wavelength to get through the atmosphere without the ozone dissipating it, I dunno...) But the only thing we do know is that the beam hitting the planet was blue, and the beam hitting the Orion was yellow, as was the forward turret beam to the space station that was destroyed.

Yeah, the Manticore was firing primaries from its secondary banks (for some reason they did that in both intros, FS1 and FS2, though i can accept FS1 since it was most likely a change done early in development)
Also, it shows the Hades crashed on the planet in Deneb.

I assume that the Hades fell on the surface of a planet, who knows. Silent Threat was still far from FS2, so...

Find out where the GTI HQ Jotunheim was and we'll find out where the Hades really died.
Besides, if the Hades did crash on a planet, something that big would have caused more than just a little splat like that.

I do not recall seing the Hades on Deneb... or the primary banks... and the lucy's side canon is actually in a briefing if you'll look for it. Can you post pics? (FRAPS use F10 during VLC or FS playback). If not, I'll try to find them, and I'll post the pics if I can spot what you're talking about... I think there's a better explaination for at least some of them.

See that plasma blast there? It's firing from the Manticore's missile ports rather than its cannons.
For the Hades, when the smoke clears, and the datestamp 'Thirty-Two Years Later' appears, you can see a crashed hunk in the background. That's the Hades. You can see it's four engine port thingies.
BTW, the Hades was destroyed in Beta Aquilae.

Ah, here we go... I think the quad - engined thingy you're talking about could not possible be the Hades.
a) The Hades was destroyed, not shot out of orbit.
b) The Hades is much larger than that
c) If the Hades had been shot out of orbit, it would have broken up into much smaller pieces; most of it would have burned up in the atmosphere. Even if it miraculously made it down intact, it would shatter & bury itself in a huge crater. Most likely what you see is either another ship, or a part of a building, IMHO.

It's DEFINITELY the Hades. Comparison shots should prove it, however, I wasn't saying that it was the Hades. The Hades died in Beta Aquilae, not Deneb. What you're proving is my point, that the FS2 Intro was non-canon.

No, you'd have to manually place the terrain or it will move with the player. This is done so the player doesn't reach the edge of the skybox, IIRC.

Actually, the bluish beams are crap.
I should know. I made em up as a cheap impression of the Lucifer's bombardment cannons. :p
All I did was simply copy that really low res and poorly coloured image from the VPrime cbani, blurred it up sufficiently to look ok when static, and used it as the only section in the beam. The effect I'll be going for when I rebuild it using Prox2 will hopefully be animated in the same way as the one in the cbani. I love that sorta rippling flux of energy look - something the static image just totally fails at.

Because every-time is triggered about 5-6 times per second(Karajorma's FAQ)and sending 10-12 messages in 2 seconds will probably make FS2 crash. Also, numeric variables are for specific purposes. If you know that the variable is modified 5 or 6 times per second, well, it's a bit random.

So far you've done quite well!
And 400 mph means 180 meters per second... that is a much more "dogfighteable" speed for a FS mod.

I've got to start that when I've seen first season of Battlestar Galactica about four months ago I felt inspired to create something new - hybrid of FS universe and BSG uni. I was inspired by many games, films, my own ideas and Battlestar Galactica. In my vision Shivans aren't cylons. They are only pawns. Somethign bigger is comming. But about that later ;)
You can think that my vision is very similar to BSG or other universes, but Apocalypse III is only an intrduction to the Apocalypse IV, the main campaign I want to relase. So it's time for a plot! :) Before you read, you should know that my english is poor, so expect language mistakes... ;)
We were living in a Imperium without wars. The life was beautifull, seventeen systems of Galactic Earth Alliance were living in peace. In 2246 immiedleatly a lot of unknown forces are arriving in seventeen systems of Galactic Earth Alliance, our proud. We've called them the Shivans. (It's the same race as in FS series). They didn't have attempt to contact. They had just blasted everything on their ways. They've destroyed all our planets, the most part of battleforces, moons, mines, killed people. Only a few thoustands of people have surrived with me. We've found only a few refugee on our ways. They've came with us. Nemesis, our proud, superdestroyer was commanding us with Jimmy White, admiral of the fleet. And it was a small hope to surrive... And next danger on the horizon: Second, more powerfull race. We didn't knew that we'll meet our allies soon...

Never tried something similar. I think that a normal skybox and a normal planet model work fine.

Yes... Chaper One is named prologue and It'll contain about 17 missions.
Chapter 2, Odyssey will contain about 25 missions.

There are a few things here - First, the old background image (the Milky Way), isn't really used so much anymore, only for missions set in Sol. This was just something to look cool, not really plot-related...

I think they're cool :P In that they look like the Terrans are web spinning the Shivans for a tasty juicy meal afterwards.

I think they're more realistic... they should slowly dissipate, as the gases expand, but they shouldn't be anywheres near as short as they are normally in FS2.

Nice screens, they really look great, but I have a question about the mod.
I myself also do a lot of modding but I don't know how to make a primary weapon with a counter. (e.g. Rifle Rounds 1000)

We're doing huge progress.
The most pity thing is that we've got lack of texture artists in our team. A lot of uv-maps need to be finished. Currently we've got a lot of new models, but with placeholder textures. Interface art isn't started yet, but we've got plenty soundtracks completed.

I personally dislike the bubble lazer thingy.... I think it's not good looking and also how would you contain light in a bubble??
This missile trail thing is great! adds some reallistic edge to the weapons.
