What differences is this gonna make? It's not as if Volition will be making F*S*3.....
-
It's good to know.
-
its just impressive, in fact, that Interplay is still alive and kicking. almost a miracle.
-
I like how their site links to 'Play chess Online' and all their support links are broken.
-
Along with our strategy of leveraging our existing portfolio of intellectual gaming properties, Fallout Online will play a key role in the future of Interplay.”
:wtf:
-
ie, if it doesn't work, they're screwed.
-
DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!
-
last i checked volotion still lives as well. anyone catch their logo in saints row?
-
DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!
It should be:
DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!
:P

Exactly. We should ignore it.

DUN DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!
No, Koopa's right, and you're just stupid.

/me detects Snail is having a bad day.

Depends. I was refering to Beethoven's S. n°5.
-
Methinks he was refering to the standard cliche "imminent doom" or "shocking revelation" melody you can see in so many movies.
-
When I first saw that line, I thought it refferred to the briefing music (Genesis/ancients)...
but now I know... its the Music of Doom (tm)!
-
Beethoven's Simphony N.5? That's the one I know.
-
DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!
No! That's wrong! It has to crescendo as it goes down because the human ear more readily picks up higher pitches! "DUN DUN DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!" is the correct way to have it. :p
Sorry :nervous:.
-
Who knows, maybe they'll make a good deal of cash off this and then they can make what we all know they should :D.
How the heck does a developer get in $59 million of debt anyways? Publisher sure, but developer??
-
IIRC, Interplay is the publisher.
Still... I have to admit I'm impressed they managed to dig themselves out of that much debt. I thought Interplay was toast...
Who knows, maybe they'll make a good deal of cash off this and then they can make what we all know they should :D.
Meh. :v: made the FS series. If Interplay did want to give it another go... they'd probably get another developer for it. And I find it a bit unlikely they'd want to take a chance on a sequel to a commercial failure of a game, especially when they just recently got out of that much debt.
-
They might want to maybe try once they have a good foothold on the money business.

You must not be refering to Beethoven's S. N°5. There definitely is a "DUN DUN DUNDUUUUUUUUUUUUUUNNNN!" there.

They should work a bit on advertising. So many FS fans, like me, know the series almost by chance!
-
Ya, rly. My friend stumbled across it because I showed him Descent3... If not for that, I'd prolly never have showed up here at all.
-
In the future I forsee a "Freespace-Online" coming out.
That is if this so called "fallout online" dose not bomb....
-
Um... the PLay Chess Online link works... :p
I'm going to look at their financial filings and see what their balances are... last time I looked they had "R.I.P. Interplay" plastered all over.
-
Okay now... looking at their last filing (dated August 14).

Their latest filings are amazing compared to what they gave before. They're making millions again and now have the ability to pay off the debts and fines.

Probably for the same reasons (ie; pumping a load of dosh into a new game which either isn't completed or bombs).
-
They paid too much for licenses, paid too much for development, the game flops. Then, they need to pay everyone. Then, they need to pay for their offices, power, water, internet, computers, possibly food, transportation, press deals, advertisement, legal fees. If they can't cover everything, they start getting nailed by fines... I know Interplay was fined for not having a normal office after they couldn't afford it. They were fined for being unable to pay some salaries. They couldn't afford advertisement. They couldn't afford more licenses. They couldn't sell their current licenses (they needed them for royalties and nearly nobody would buy a flopped license). They're still developing stuff--gotta keep that up or they'll lose a future revenue source. They borrow money, take loans, and they can't pay interest. All of this ends up with a company (Interplay) in debt, digging their own grave. Finally, they put down the shovel and are trying to climb out... hopefully Fallout Online will gain a bit more hype from Fallout 3--Interplay has had years to think about what was done wrong... I don't know if they'll revive the Freespace series or if they'll dismiss it as a horrible flop, though they're most likely to simply run the business off of Fallout Online. Hopefully they come back to the grave and see this community still thriving (and decide not to send out cease and desist letters to everyone of us), and thus decide to at least look back into Freespace as a product, and hopefully with :v:.

Um... right.... I'll assume you were talking to me. I haven't had that much time on my hands so I've consolidated what I know into this topic.
-
Guh, it was a joke. If you had checked at the time you posted, the Recent Posts would have looked like this:
Except you broke the chain. :P

What differences is this gonna make? It's not as if Volition will be making F*S*3.....
Does anyone want to apply http://www.volition-inc.com/Jobs/ProjectManager and suggest FS3 as new project?
-
I would, but I don't meet any of the requirements!
-
I wonder how a company which is essentially ticking-over can make so much (albeit gross) dough ?
-
Who knows--Fallout Online seems to be their only asset, beyond old licenses. They paid off a nice chunk of their expenses and everything I see points to FOO being the product of choice (the $2000 cost for merchandise, following multi-million-dollar profit). The normal Fallout license was purchased in 2004 by Bethesda Softworks. Maybe Interplay is making some money off of that as well... here's something interesting, quoted from Wikipedia.
Fallout MMOG
On November 30, 2006, Interplay has filed a Form 8-K filing to the SEC regarding a potential Fallout massively multiplayer online game.[6] The Form 8-K contained a prospectus stating that Interplay will be issuing common stock on Euronext to raise capital for developing a Fallout MMOG. The report stated that the production and launch processes will require an estimated US$75 million in capital. The report also stated that production may start as early as January 2007 and the game may launch as early as July 2010.[7]
In April 2007, SEC filings were made showing the purchase of the IP for the Fallout MMO to Fallout 3 developer Bethesda for $5.75 million USD. While Bethesda now owns the rights to the Fallout MMO IP, clauses in the purchase agreement state allow Interplay to license the rights to the development of the MMO, provided that development begins within 24 months of the date of the agreement (April 4, 2007), and that Interplay must secure $30 million within that time frame or forfeit its rights to license. Interplay must furthermore launch the MMOG within 4 years of the beginning of development, and pay Bethesda 12 percent of sales and subscription fees for the use of the IP.[8]
-
"must secure 30 million." ??? If Interplay can get a hold of 30 mil now I'll **** myself... ;7
-
Interplay can do it--Fallout is a big enough name to attract investors...
-
I wonder how long it will take them to make another game. ;7
-
What would be funny is if HLP was able to buy the Freespace license from Interplay.
Would we even do anything with it?

Don't even joke about that. Don't even start on it. If you didn't notice, a similar thread (posted at the same time) was closed after someone came into a few million dollars and wanted to buy the rights. Needless to say, this community would be against it. If Interplay wants FS3, they'll let it be made. Hopefully they'll still ask :v: to do it.
-
Even if they did get :v: to agree, they'd have to get around THQ.

Well, the thread was just closed because it had become a spamfest. I don't think anyone was exactly against it, but the fact of the matter is that getting the license would do nothing for us in itself.
-
FS3..... :(
-
FS3..... :(
Uhh... :wtf: Yea that is what gets the thread closed.
-
Let me rephrase what I said before... the only thing acquiring the Freespace license would do is put a legal and financial blockade on a FS3 and allow us to control distribution of the ISOs. We don't own the license as it is and we are still doing the latter regardless. Nobody has received a Cease and Desist Letter from Interplay or anybody else! Heck--:v: at a minimum knows we are doing this and have gave us a bit of under-the-table support. I'm just saying it's generally a bad idea if someone buys the license.
-
Oops, I forgot the ":P" smiley in the post. My bad. :nervous:
