:jaw: :shaking:
Edit: if you must know, that folder is currently fifteen gigs and rising.
Edit: And contains four versions for "Furieux.exe" a hard drive wiping virus a friend of mine coded

I've filled up my 30 GB external HDD and most of my 40 GB laptop HDD.
-
I have well in excess of 100 Gigs of audio samples and synths all on a dedicated drive. It's getting full as well :(
-
Up to around a terabyte myself. Of course I've been collecting junk since 1980.
-
Don't worry I just got 36 GB and it almost filled up.
-
I mock your 15 gig Stuff folder with my 56 gig own. :p

B, C, and Y are all the same drive, just seperate partitions. Y is my linux drive, B/C are both vista
E and G were former Western Digital external drives i tore apart and put into my desktop, E being partially network shared and mapped (being Z)
N is a dedicated network backup drive
I've got backups from days of olde though after i got tired of losing my data forever, hence the multitude of space. I also get a crazy discount at work on hard drives...
the removable drives are a card reader array, though its not uncommon to see L-X be some varying amount of flash drives (and yes i have hit that hard cap of single drive letters before doing some insane flash drive work)...
TL;DR: approx 862.52gb
-
I keep everything I can on my servers. There's about another 700gig of space on FUBAR5 that I haven't allocated to a volume yet. All of those server volumes are mirrored as well. :pimp:

Someone likes their stats...and exactly what were you doing in Goldwave while playing EVE (whatever that is)? By the way that Vista looks cool - does it use up tonnes of memory though?
-
Welkl i just installe devery game i own from dos 2.0 games upto RA3 :p
There's a fair bit of music on it too, i don't use servers, i have a stack of RW-DVD's which are easier to get to when my nets off-line :p
quick note desktop/stuff folders FREAKIN RULE

i like to multitask :nervous:
and it actually uses very little memory on its own, unnoticeable compared to normal applications
-
It uses more memory but manages it better if that makes sense.
I've gotten used to Ultimate and actually like it better than XP now.
Folder structure changes take quite a bit of getting used to and there are more confusing temporary spaces.
But I like the searchbox integration and it is pretty fast.
I may have to Build an i7-core with DDR3 in a few months just cause they are quick.
-
the start menu search is frankly amazing
-
< - - already uses 2 TB in storage.
Really want to get a NAS with another 2 TB....

What the heck do you use for backups?
-
4TB megadrives? How do you use up 2000GB?

Damn you. I wish i had or could afford a Widow, a Rohk, a Nighthawk, a handful of raptors, and the rest of the crap i know you have..
My only 'spensive stuff is a phoenix and a moros.
-
thats only my rigged ships i haven't taken time to fly out
-
It amazes me how some of you are able to horde up stuff you're unlikely to ever use again. The stuff that I have backed up only amounts to less than 200MB. The rest I either have no use for or I can download them again should I need to.

Really my idea of a "megadrive" doesn't involve TBs.
But as to the question, I've been keeping stuff since I started computing around '95.
Plus I've had like 8 computers over that period of time. 3 of which are currently active.
I couldn't count how many people I've helped because I had some old program version from before
they started charging or limiting features... or some old DOS tool like Norton Commander around.
I do a bunch of stuff with Photoshop... make movie theater sized posters. One of those can eat 400~700MB a pop.
Mostly I use externals and a tiny little old 38GB drive in my laptop.... so there ya go.
If I had the power for games, I'd need even more space... probably another TB at least.

Trouble is, it often disappears from the net never to be seen again.
Edit- added a comma
-
And I have to do it with a 160GB hard-disk, which has been filled to to the top 5 times over again.... Seriously, big hard drives are for people who are too lazy to do something about resource management.
-
Sometimes I take a look at C: and delete old/unused/useless stuff.
Computer deaths are pretty common for me - one in summer 2007 and another one in summer 2008 - so they do most part of the job. :blah:

Fortanately, I've never had an HD die on me, so I just carry them over :p
-
Great example: Earlier this year I ran into someone that loved the original Xcom game but had lost it years ago. I had it zipped up sitting on my file server in the same place it has been since 94. Different file server but same volume and directory. Had a harder time finding 3 good floppies to put it on.
-
I used to have the x-com collection set (x-com, terror from the deep and Interceptor) but they were destroyed in a house move :( i miss plasma weapons.
-
My hard drive can hold a (sarcasm) whole 50 gigs, with 5 gigs left. I don't even have enough memory to run a defrag.
-
I'm the opposite of most people here. I have a 250GB drive that is pretty small by today's standards, but I have not bothered to buy more drives since it's barely half full. I delete downloaded installers as well as larger (5GB or more) games that I'm not playing regularly, although I keep all the savegames and config files. I also clean out the Windows temp folders every now and then, which can become surprisingly big if you don't pay attention to them for a long time.
I used to keep all my installers and included them in my backups at one point, which has been a huge time saver for me many times in the past, but game patches and custom content have become a lot larger over the years and my stash eventually became too big for this to remain practical. Now I only keep the download if the file took me a lot of effort to find.
-
Kudos to anyone who has a 1 PB (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petabyte) hard drive. At this rate, having a half-terabyte hard drive will be common in the next decade.
-
I have a good twenty-some burned DVDs lying around full of backed-up files, the vast majority of which consist of various animu and music. My 320 GB drive still has 170 GB free, since most of what I have backed up isn't on here at the moment. I don't have very many PC games to speak of, so even if I did have them all installed, I'd still be sitting on a crap-load of empty space.
-
I just bought a 1TB external Drive that was on sale... at least I can fit my current and future anime in there.
-
I have yet to completely fill my 80GB hard drive.
I've had it for over 3 years.
-
don't worry people. One time I use to got a 6 GB harddrive for my computer. (That when I lost my 40 GB hard Drive)
Realize how quickly you can fill up 6 GB harddrive
-
my first pc (read before fs2) had a 6g and i would have to actually remove things to install fs2 and other games... we got an 80gb at some point when we upgraded to windows 2000, and i never filled it before we gave it to my sisters kids
-
My old Mac had a 160MB drive. Disk space was sometimes an issue on it, as the games back then were small but not small enough, and there were also a lot more games in general. The biggest games weighed in at 5MB or more and a bunch of those could quickly load up the drive.

i had a IIGS without a hard drive

i had a IIGS without a hard drive
I had 2 hard drives on my IIGS and even had one on my II+ (became one of the ones on the IIGS). Still have it somewhere. That thing is huge.
BTW: I still both the II+ and IIGS and as far as I know they both still work.
-
I still have about 100 GB on my Mac. :)
-
I've always had hard drive trouble. Although I managed to clear out to almost 4 GB free on my desktop (40 GB hard drive), I still have trouble with my laptop (around 50 GB), even though I have two 320 GB external hard drives. Many times I fill my remaining space on my laptop's C partition from FS2 screenshots! (They go to one the external drives.) I'm currently on screen3777.tga. ;7
Also, sometimes when I'm on the Internet, the space on the same C partition starts shrinking rapidly, causing alarms to start ringing, then suddenly the space comes back. It just happened again now. I have no idea what does it. I should run another virus check over the weekend...
-
I have 180 GB in my desktop, and 80 and 100 in my laptops respectively (well my mother's, but I use them mostly). My external is 250 GB.
The desktop doesn't have much on it, about 10 GB worth of replaceable stuff, mainly torrents. The larger laptop has a few HD movies, which I delete once I watch them. The small one is empty, just a few school docs. My External has the complete BSG, season 4-5 of Atlantis, and the SG1 movies. It has a few distros from time to time, and usually some school work.
I only really have about 30MB of irreplaceable stuff, as well as my 250MB Funny Pictures folder, now 1800 strong.

Huh, my random folder that I just dump everything into is only 8GB. Maybe because I got it in September...
-
I should really empty these more often....
