Title: JAD
Post by: EAD_Agamemnon on March 17, 2010, 08:56:33 pm
I swear that whoever <stares at Axem> made this series of mods was trippin on some exotic drug concoction...wasted from drinking a few too many gallons of everclear...or both...

OOOOkay....just got done...FINALLY (i think) after doing 2 full runs through the temporal loop...run 3 i thought leaving the insane asylum of that battle is would finish it (so can do JAD3)....nope....

-------------
POSSIBLE SPOILER!
was I right in just ~ + K everything cept the Iceni and the Pal which both got ~ + Shift + I? (at least no more ridiculous time loops and disco <shudder>) well it did say campaign over after that

or

is it putting up with the loop 5x like that crazy vasudan pilot said about riddle of 5...
-----------------

too bad the Shivans didnt wax just the terran part of the GTVA...fruitcakes the lot...unlike the Vasudans "...finally some competent..." I forget the rest of the quote

the vasudan that talked alot and went on about a temporal loop thing and how past present and future are here....same one that said "or wait on your future self" or something like that...same one who agreed on destroying the PAL and would kill it if Alpha 1 didnt...

idk...JAD is an epic face palm

Saving the PAL does not require cheats. I'm reasonably sure no other missions do either.

The PAL's in JAD2.

I don't remember it being necessary to cheat in any of them(any references were just text, and in JAD2, ~+K wouldn't have worked, in one shot, on that kind of ship, anyway).

Spoiler:
Oh, right. After Samuel L. Terran Command goes down, that "corporate fleet" shows up. I was stuck there for a while, then realized I had to 'follow the money'(well, first I had to realize where it was). The mecha had a different weak point than the 'Shivan' mecha from an earlier stage, but was in a logical enough location. I liked the 'item' stuff in the last few levels, at least once I figured out what everything did. I might pick a fast fighter like a Pegasus for the final level(or Loki, if the latter is even available), though if you leave a certain 'item' around until the very end, you won't necessarily need the speed at that point.

It's necessary to cheat in the mission where you need to grab the nav buoys from the pegasus and the colossus, because the mission is bugged or something and nothing has collision. so you can't kill the ares necessary to take the beacon from the colly.

Or you can just pump all power to the engines and beat the Ares to the beacon.
Title: Re: JAD

No, you can beat the pegasus to the beacon, but you need to kill the ares.
The ares spawns when you near the second beacon (at the collosus)
Title: Re: JAD
Post by: EAD_Agamemnon on March 18, 2010, 06:51:56 pm
well whichever one had the PAL in it...in objectives im suppose to scan it but its not scannable...and when my future self cant remember what to tell me...my wingman and command say destroy it...1st go around I did....well at last 'mission after Bravos vs FRED2  I go in the Knossonos and end up BACK at the mission with the PAL....this time i ignored it and my wingman killed it....so back again to the Bravos vs Fred2 battle...then on 3rd time to the Pal...(and an assumed reference to the encounter with FRED in JAD1)...i ensured the Iceni (FRED2 in this case) and the PAL both survived....when they were all that was left campaign ended

will go back to it sooner or later and see if there was another way though...after that 1st go around i cheated my way....i hate  :mad2: temporal loops   :shaking:

NOTE: I never had a problem with the beacon grabbing mission....only cheating i did in that one (only consistent one in all of JAD) was make myself invincible since that mod has habit of tossing about one-shot-smite-thee beams like theres no tomorrow and despite efforts I kept getting vaporized

NOTE2: in the 1st mission where ships arrange into mecha looking...my entire screen was stuck in the 'freelook' style...didnt have any hud or anything...during 2nd time they do it however it worked normally
Title: Re: JAD
Post by: Droid803 on March 18, 2010, 06:58:27 pm
Dude, just don't shoot the PAL! No need to cheat :P
Title: Re: JAD
Post by: Timerlane on March 18, 2010, 07:55:03 pm
Note that when your wingman decides to kill the PAL on his own, his IFF turns purple(neutral), suggesting it's okay to shoot him. I didn't notice that until the third time through, I think.

I didn't have any collision problems with the 'demon lobster' mission, either. I even ended up killing the Ares partly due to it bungling itself into a cubbyhole/corner in the Colossus. By trial and error, I skimmed over the surface of the top of the Colly and the 'lobster', to minimize return fire.
Title: Re: JAD
Post by: Droid803 on March 18, 2010, 08:47:15 pm
Yeah you have to kill the wingman that tries to kill the PAL.

Wait, you didn't have collision issues on the demon lobster mission? ShadowGorrath and I both had collision problems.

I never noticed that about the wingman...well...better late than never

Ya that 1st occurrence with the 2 Endor mechas...first few times tried I was stuck in the 'free look' kinda of perspective...and the Shivan one I watched it shoot the GTVA one for a looong time but nothing happened (it never even fired back)...then again maybe i also shoulda did what the Briefing screen said...turn down model detail but somehow I don't think that woulda made difference

Whenever that happens, it's just that your HUD didn't reappear(for whatever reason; it's a somewhat common occurrence). Press Shift-O, and you can continue normally. I don't know/recall if the friendly mecha does anything.

The first mecha's weak point:
Spoiler:
Look for the Shivan Comm Node, near its chest, IIRC. I recommend bringing Maxims to kill it from a distance.

In the last mission:
Spoiler:
I've actually forgotten what 'objects' were used, but...inside the Hades fighterbay, at the 'groin' of the mecha, are a pair of objects, probably cargo containers or something; you can't fly inside, but you can shoot them from outside. Destroying both will cause the mecha to self-destruct.

Eh well, I recall I somehow managed to beat that mission without cheating even with the collision error (I actually thought the no clipping thing was intentional :P )

On one hand, the secret to JAD is cheating. Not www.freespace2.com cheats, but out thinking FRED when he tries to construct his "foolproof" plans.

Anyway is the Ares thing a problem with the MediaVP model? JAD doesn't require the MediaVPs, try it out without them and see if the Ares is still impossible to kill. If it is... then he gets CHANGED.

I've also taken note of some other things you guys are reporting for any updates I do to the campaigns.
Title: Re: JAD
Post by: Timerlane on March 20, 2010, 08:17:50 pm
From what I recall reading from other people, everything in that particular mission was lacking collision detection. I, personally, had no problems, though(and was using the 3.6.10 MVPs).

I did also recently note that there are subtle hints on the F4 Objectives screen. "Brackets", "Makes the galaxy go round", etc; so, if anyone's stuck, that might be worth checking.

I'm talking about the one where after they transform into that thing they make some comment about the power cord, so everything is turned off. After that happened it gives you a believe in yourself speech and I had no clue what to do.......

Also, IIRC, the AA beams on the ships are active, so you might want to bring along some Maxims or Trebs to snipe with.

Yes, absolutely everything in that mission lacks collision detection for me. I can fly inside the Colossus, the Lucifer, and the Hecate. Shots pass right through me, and everything else.

It just so happens the Ares is the only thing you really need to kill.

Citizen Kane. The whole scene is actually a plothole, though, since nobody was around to hear his final words. Point that out to a film professor sometime if you want them to go hysterical.

The other one would be from the Patrick Swazye vehicle Ghost. I think. Early 90's movies sort of blend together in my head.

Condensed mind****?  NGE?  Maybe.  On the other hand if you really want to feel your brains dripping out your ears you need to watch FLCL.  Its like a bad acid trip, every single episode, and it never, ever makes any sense whatsoever.

Actually, FLCL makes perfect sense, and its underlying message is deceptively simple.  It just requires several re-watches to do so. :p
