running a p4 at 2.4 ghz. its an older model, doesnt do hyperthreading and is only on a 400mhz bus.  i really have no preferances, you get what you pay for. the only amd i used was a low end duron 900mhz and it was a good economy chip. it was to slow for me and i upgraded to a 1.7 ghz p4 (which sill resides in my closet somewhere) and a new mobo to boot. when my laptop got fried its prosessor was still good and thats the one im using now.

from what i know, amd does have a better bus archetecture and gives you some better options when it comes to chipsets (nforce for example). im planning to build a new pc somethime in the next 6 months, and i think il use a 64 bit amd. need to do more resurch because i dont know jack about amd's current line.

does anyone have any experience running dual AMD-64s in a desktop system?  I'm considering building a dual AMD64 4000+ processor system.

anyone got any good dual 64bit AMD motherboard names that i can get? :D

Are you talking about a dual Opteron setup, Stealth? Or are you talking about building a rig with one of the dual-core A64s, the Athlon 64 X2?

You'd have to go Opteron for that :p Athlon 64s are single CPU chips.

I'm seriously considering an opteron for my next pc, i have a p4 now but the only thing i see with the opteron is that it runs hot, VERY HOT.

Opterons are the sever/workstation chips. And they run cooler than P4s do.

I think I need to get my AMD chip names straight:D

i was thinking about dual 64s, then i thought about dual DC processors, but that would be pointless and highly expensive in just a desktop computer :p

i only wanted dual 64As so i could say "i've got dual A64 4000+ processors"... ;)

AMD is better value for the performance IMO.
