It does not look like WinXP x64 will be natively adopted widely. The big push comes when WinVista hits the shelves, which unfortunately will take another year or so. I have two A64 computers which were running WinXP x64 until a few days ago, there was simply no good enough driver and software support for the OS to make it better in performance than older XP. The picture would be completely different indeed if games and most software would have native x64 support. :sigh:

Yeah will unfortunately Oblivion won't let you kill quest NPCs.

"Too many people broke their games and complained despite our warning!"

:doubt:

What ticks me off is ever since Daggerfall I've wanted to do an elaborate assassination on a noble. In Morrowind it wasn't really satisfying since the NPCs didn't have schedules. Now that they do, you're not allowed to kill characters involved in quests. *grumble*

But, but I didn't MEAN to put an arrow through that key characters eye BEFORE he told me what I need to know!

Stupid unrealistic approach... :doubt: :ick:
I understand that those characters should be hard to kill, but it's simply   that you can't touch them, even if your character is ten times more powerful...

I would prefer the option - you killed them so you altered the reality, you cannot complete this quest :sigh:

In other games like BG 2 you could kill the main character like  Shadow Thief Guild Master
even if it prevented the completion of game...
but you were killed by a ultra allmighty avenger...

if i killed a quest NPC before or during a quest where he or she was important (in morrowind) i HAD to reload anyway because i had destroyed my destiny or some ****e...

this is just idiot proofing, that's all.

You're right but if someone runs and kills everybody he won't be able to complete a single quest no matter what... :)

Nah, if they're going to be realistic they should cater for that possibility as well. If you really really want the ability to kill NPCs before you've gotten the quests from them then you should be able to do so - and get experience for it. But don't be suprised when you run out of quests and are only able to play through half the game.

Ahh ye olde realism argument.

If they were aiming for realistic the game wouldn't be set on a world with two moons where people zap magic from their fingertips and are fighting an invasion from an alternate dimension ;)

Unless I'm living actually living on Tamriel and I was just having a bad dream about a life in a technological society full of idiots. (sort of like the Dwemer... maybe this is a bad dream... hrmm...)

Heh, yeah that is true. But lets face it - you can kill things on this world. Jacob Truffelbutt the baker is not protected by the gods / good luck / bread / some magical device. When you cast that lightning bolt - he should die.

And if you didn't mean to do it - then you deserve to not be able to complete the quest for being such a moron ;)

Better yet, they could have two gameplay modes. Quest and Rampage. Quest is the standard storyline where vital NPCs are protected from harm. Rampage is an anything-goes setup where the quests still exist, but only if you can avoid killing poor old Jacob the baker.
