Sorry to necromance, but it seems everyone is asking about fred2 in linux, as well as me. I was going to dual boot with win2k to use fred and some other stuff because not everything works in wine, but i managed to get fred2 great now on sidux.
Just get wine from your local repository, and also get wine-utils from your local repository. Once those are of course installed, i go into console and type winefile, then i browse around in the wine file manager to get to fred2. And fred2 now works for me perfectly with no graphical errors or anything, before without winefile i'd try to open fred2 in console with "wine FRED2.exe" and it'd say cannot open in root directory. Winefile doesn't give me that error messag and lets me run the ****ing program for once. Also winefile is necessary if you want to do multi-cd installs of windows programs, winefile does have it's uses and it is nice. It looks just like the windows 3.11 file manager, but i don't care

EDIT: Lol, fred2 is normal, fred2 open has the black bar ****
