EDIT - Preface

I'm going to add any sort of free web based resources here in case anyone else may find it useful. It's going to be a mish mash of technical type resources manuals. It will at least benefit the user base here.

I am aware that a few people (namely Starslayer) use a technical drawing / draftsman style and wondered how many people have heard of Scott Robertson. I recently got his 'how to draw' book and I'm very happy with the content.

Basically it teaches how to draw in a constructive sense. see below (not my work)



I thought we could use a topic to discuss two point perspective and mirroring etc. 
Is anyone interested in this sort of thing?

-- It's a lot more available as a constructive medium for those of us at work without access to blender, but can scribble away while we're stuck behind a desk ;D

Thanks! I've never had the chance to learn about drawing "constructively" as you say. Interesting way of drawing and looks much more professional, especially when drawing initial designs for a ship or object.

All you need's a biro and a pad of paper from the pound shop dude technical drawing / drafting is what CAD's based on. Once I get better, I'll be posting pics here. If anyone else fancies posting useful links or drawing attempts here, go for it.

Nice sketch Dekker!  I'll need to check out the linked material, to be honest I've not really partaken in any technical drawing training so it could be pretty useful.

Well, I'd definitely recommend watching a few of the YouTube vids. You can only benefit, cheers by the way

What's your method? The above was pencil sketching into a perspective cage, mirroring and then building tone and edging. Similar to a vertex build.

You'll probably hate me for saying this but most of it I just kinda naturally do without any methodology.  Typically I can maintain perspective without any cage, I might add a couple plane lines occasionally if I want to be a stickler but my spatial awareness when drawing is pretty good.  I'll definitely check out the material you linked, there is probably a whole mess of tricks I don't know about.

I don't hate you lol. I've been a scribbler since I can remember. I just recently got into this so as to refine it. There are some really good tips on mirroring curves at anangle etc.
