Well, for example, I never do any exercise whatsoever (I'm pretty much in one of two chairs the whole day :D) but I am somewhat underweight. :p

Yeah, it's worth noting that you can be almost any weight and still be unhealthy.

I'm underweight by recommended standards but I exercise so I'm damn near invunerable to illnesses and I usually always feel great. Exercise kicks neck

Thats all very well, but i dont think most overweight people would be able to cycle 10km.  They're overweight becuase they dont exersice, they dont exersice because they are overweight.

The best way to lose weight is to join the army! My friend lost over 50kg after 6 months. AND THATS ALOT! All you do is exercise, eat the food they give you (which is quite a lot considering) and sleep. I was  when he came out. I dodn't even recognize him!

but dont you have to pass a medical to get into the army.  How could a seriously overweight person get in?

It's a lack of will.

They lack will because they are depressed.  They are depressed because the way society treats them.

In the end i blame modern society.  It just makes it hard to fit in time for exercise and eating healthily.
Hopefully goverments and employers will realise this soon.

And I think this quote pretty much sums it up:

Well, obviously the clinically obese can't, but i managed it... i was about 8 stone when I was 12 IIRC (which is pretty badly overweight), and I'm only just over 11 8 years later... it only takes a little motivation.

Mind you, there is probably too much pressure on people to be 'perfect'... and oftne a so-called perfect body is underwieght & unhealthy.... plus peoples metabolisms affect all that, so there's no real single reason.

I can't quite understand why people worry so much about this though. Who cares how fat or thin you are as long as your brain works well?

I follow the greek philosophy on that.  Weak body, weak mind.  Strong body, strong mind.  And its not about intelligence, its about using your brain as best you can.  If you're not getting enough food or enough of the right food, its obvious your brain isn't going to work as well as it should because its not getting all of the food that it needs.

I partially agree with that. Yes, food consumption does play a rather significant part in the way the brain works, however, having a healthy body does not always mean that you're intelligent. I know quite a few well trained people out there who really couldn't be able to pick up a dropped penny without falling over. And I know quite a few "huskier" people who are rather brilliant. So yes, keeping a healthy diet will increase brain activity and keep the brain itself healthy, but it doesen't mean that you're smart automatically.
