Lag spikes on cap ship explosion and subspace jumps
So, I've been having a very annoying and persistent problem with this game. I'm running Freespace 2, from GOG.com, with FSO installed.

Every time a capital ship explodes, or any type of ship uses a subspace portal, my framerate drops to oblivion for the duration of the event. For jumps, it specifically occurs when the ship is passing over the threshold of the portal. I have, on occasion, been able to watch a subspace jump without lagging at all, but I have no idea what causes this.

Does anyone know what could be causing this, and if there's a fix I could use?

I have a suspicion I've see this too, but still-

Please post your fs2_open.log file.  Instructions on how to do this can be found in this post.

I'll try to do that once I get home.

Sorry for the delay, but I've recorded a log file as requested. It's attached to this post.

I did experience the described lag spike while recording, but only from fighters jumping in; no capital ships exploded during this game. One thing that may have an effect: Before logging this, I checked the "enable 3D warp" and "enable flash on warp" options under the gameplay menu in the features tab. However, this had no effect on the FPs lag spikes.

This was recorded while using the June 9th nightly build.

Hmm, how old is your computer? Your drivers only support OpenGL 2.1.0. Try updating your drivers and see if that fixes the problem.

As it stands Intel graphics don't work with FSO as well as a few would hope.

Ah, that'd do it. My laptop is a decrepit old thing I won't be using for much longer, but it runs the rest of the game fine, so I was hoping it might be a glitch rather than a simple performance issue.

Actually, would you be willing to take care of some testing for me Pyroclase? If so please download the latest nightly for your OS (r10789 or later) and run the debug build. You might see some improvements and you might not. I really just need a debug log and any repro info if crashes occur.

Please PM the log and info to me if you do this.
