Tonight's episode of Enterprise
The planet was Ceti Alpha 5.

Kahn and Co were stranded because they tried to take over the Enterprise.

Khan calls Kirk "Old Friend" because he is mental deranged, likely a side effect of his genetic engineering.

No, it's part of the character, Khan sincerely believes that Kirk was a dear friend who stabbed him in the back.

I thought it was '92.

And Khan calls Kirk 'old friend' because he's being somewhat ironic.

Khan, like that Klingon geezer, had a hard-on for Shakespeare. And throughout every interpersonal conflict in Shakespeare, if both sides are doing what they believe to be right and are both acting with honour, they maintain enough respect for each other through all the battles to know that if it wasn't for their King and country setting them against each other, they would've been friends.

Really? I thought he called him old friend because they had previous history together when Kirk exiled Khan and his crew to the surface of Ceti Alpha Six... then they run into eachother during Star Trek2: The Wrath of Khan.

Yeah, that's why he hated him.

But the reason he choses to call him 'old friend' as opposed to 'you *****' is because they were respectful adversaries, at least in Khan's eyes.

Though towards the end of Wrath of Khan it's far more sarcastic.

Fair enough, makes sense either way. Best Trek film btw (not to chuck the topic mercilessly OT ;))
