Some old gems I found...
Looking though an old HDD I found something I probably downloaded from the VWBB archives a long time ago. The two trailers for FreeSpace in exe format, and since I'm not sure if they're still available somewhere :

Clickety (~20 MB)

So, gaze at FS in software goodness, green! shivans and the early WIP HUD (in the first trailer)

Re: Some old gems I found...
ugly subspace vortexes and HUDs, that must have been the alpha, all right. ;)

i think the color scheme of the SF Basilisk was changed halfway into the making after they changed the scheme of all others to red or something, and then just left the CBAnims.

But don't game designers and testers have the best computers that are out? There's a lot of model LOD changes in trailer #2.

i tried to take a pic but the quality got massacred. :hopping:

Re: Some old gems I found...
Taking screencaps of trailer #1 results in garbled colors, don't really know what's going on.

Software mode in FS1 rules. Athough I don't think they're using the high res textures there.

I saw the FS2 trailer just a week ago, as I was putting Descent 3 back on my computer and the installer brings that up at the end.

The Basilisk is still green in one of the cbanis of FS1 too, I think, so yes.  I suspect it was changed from green at least partially because some of the allied weapons were green.  (plus it would be Borg-ish, and red is just so much cooler......)

Re: Some old gems I found...
IIRC all the Shivan ships were green at one point, but were changed to red before FS1 was released. I guess they forgot to change the Asmodeus though.

Re: Some old gems I found...
Someone once made a green Shivan fleet texture set for FS1. Red looks definitely better though.

hmm ... the sysadmins at our uni are probably screwing around with the servers. Try it again in a few hours.

EDIT: Everything should be working again.

Re: Some old gems I found...
Does anyone have the hi-res fs2 trailer, i've never been able to get that anywhere, but the low-res is easy to get. **** the low-res.
