I got on yahoo chat with gyachi. Sifted through the dozen of bots pming me until some real people messaged me. They had job offers. I am so proud of my anti-phishing efforts. I sure showed him :pimp:

That's anti-phishing. Yes, typically like always, it was some dude from nigeria phishing for my info. That's how i treat them. Give them all the information they want. Oh man it's a fun game to play. Just give them the wrong info :yes:

And then you and the person goes on your separate merry ways.

I also got another one where i turned the tables on the scammer.

EDIT: Also, go ahead and feel free to login to yahoo and message e.jack90 to make appropriate fun of him/her.

Best way of dealing with a scammer that I've ever heard of:

-Go through all their BS.
-Get the mailing address they want you to send your cheque/money order/banking info to.
-Buy the oldest fish you can find at your local supermarket.  Better yet, ask them if they have any ready to throw out.
-Wrap in newspaper and plastic.
-Mail to them.  Cheaply.

After the several weeks it will take for the fish to arrive, the smell when they open it should be absolutely epic.

And yes, I guy I know actually did this.

That person sounds like Jeff Harris, the guy who made the P-P-P-Powerbook! :D

Does anyone here know of the P-P-P-Powerbook incident? I've got the PDF where the guy who was supposed to be the victim turned the tables on the scammer with the help of some fellow buddies at the SomethingAwful Forums.

Thanks to the Internet Archive, I found what appears to be a complete archive of the P-P-P-Powerbook site...AGAIN.

I wonder why these scammers keep doing this. They're not stupid people; why can't they put their lives to better use? Months ago, I kept getting besieged by 419 scam e-mails, so I reported all of them as phishing scams to Microsoft. My mailbox is now scam-free...for now.

They're just evil assholes who aren't very smart really at all. They're just smart enough to prey on the dumb people, and they don't even do that well and sneaky enough. Blatantly obvious is on ever single one of them.

EDIT: e.jack90 is still online apparently. The few times i logged into yahoo yesterday later in the day he keeps trying to add me to his list. Of course i click no everytime. They just keep trying to get you to string you along no matter what. I wonder if he ever figured out the name, location, and address jokes though. I gave him the info, and he took it.

i do wonder how he kept on with it despite the obvious false info.... it's no surprise that the phishers are also as stupid as the victims, though.

That's why i love 3rd party yahoo clients. They totally don't follow the rules implemented in the standard yahoo messenger. In normal yahoo messenger for example i can only buzz people ever 5 seconds or so. With gyachi i can just keep clicking the button as fast as i can for however long as i want.

I got a real kick out of this part.
