Not that it matters but I thought I'd let everyone know that I'll be gone till Tuesday at best since what seemed like a simple enough problem to solve by reinstalling windows has balooned into all kinds of problems that means my system is in repair for some time, at least they salvaged my college work... but everything else was lost.

Anyways - see you all asap I hope!

The last time I screwed Windows over totally I got all but 1 of my files back. And the reason I didn't get the last one? It had a Unicode character in its filename and the software I was using to recover the files didn't like that.

Fundar eh?

FAT32 is greater then NTFS. Upon the corruption of my Hard drive (NTFS), all my files became inaccessable thanks to the fact that I needed windows xp to access them (which wasn't working), and I couldn't get them off remotely. It was so bad I felt like i was using a Mac.

Or you could have installed Windows 2000, XP, or even Linux (I believe it has NTFS support) and copied your files over to a FAT32 drive/partition

mac is (hardware wise) superior to your pc so....
The bad point in their functionality being that I don't like the OS but that's an opinion.

(actually it's a hell of a lot easier to install games on mac imho)

Thats hardly an excuse. Like I said earlier, I've been in that situation. I just grabbed another hard drive, installed XP onto that (after formatting it as NTFS, naturally) and used that to install the file recovery program onto.

NTFS > FAT

There is absolutely no reason to persist with FAT32. None at all.

What if you computer is slow and isn't fast enough to run XP?

Besides, NTFS is slower than FAT32.

I've not used that or compared that to FAT32, so I'm not sure, but I read a test about it. Also, it might be insecure... not that all things relating to Windows (well, maybe XP/2K) are stable, but they're still buggy) aren't...
