I think you jump out at a certain time in the last mission, and it lets you accept an end the campaign.

One of the shivan ships that are destroyed in the last mission is a Cain class cruiser. The thing is, that if that Cain, ISN'T destroyed, the supernova never occurs.

Look at the mission in FRED. It definately requires that the resheph and the sesmu are either destroyed or departed. Both are Ma'at class freighters. If you can managed to accidently disable one and then protect it against the shivans you can prevent the supernova.

There are other ways too. Libra wing must be present and they only appear when the Bane and Melchom are destroyed. Disable and disarm them and you can again prevent the supernova.

The last condition is that the supernova always starts 710 seconds after the start of the mission. Since the other conditions are usually already met by that time the supernova would appear to occur at the same time exactly.

Hmm...  I wonder why this was done...  Perhaps an easter egg from the mission designers?  If not, why not just have the time condition?

not that FS2's single player campaign has any form of pressure in it.... anywhere..... ever..... even on insane........

See! This is what happens when you play too much :) Bang your head against a wall until you give yourself brain damage or amnesia. Now it's a challenge again! :)
Hell, now even tuning on the computer is a challenge :)

I've done that before...   Yup, yes I have.

And I still wonder why :v: didn't use a timer only, instead of relying on the destruction of those Shivan ships.

I just saved Capella! :D

It looks like that's the only way you can actually end the campaign.  If you win or die, you can go back into the mission and play over and over and over and over...
