When replying to the TV programme thread, this painful issue crossed my mind.

Why do big countries use dubbing so often. I mean what joy do the germans get, from say... having Captain Picard speaking with the voice of some German pathetic actor, who could as well work as a newsreader.

Not to mention the fact that you lose 1/2 of the experience, you also don't learn the language as well. I've learnt 1/3 of what I know of English from the cinemas.

And there is no way I can watch channels in a foreign language I do not speak (such as German), because everything the show is dubbed. If it only were dubbed, I would never bother downloading ST:TNG off WinMX.

So, what do our fellow germans think of this? Subtitles or dubbing.

Dubbing all the way. I just can't watch a show AND have to read something going across at the bottom. It's super annoying! Unless, of course, the actor sucks, which makes it more annoying:D

Subtitles, dubbed versions loose the feel of the film IMO. Amelie, Akira, Princess Mononoke - they were all better in their original language. Fortunately with Amelie subtitles were as standard.

well, easy for you to say english-speakers. I mostly never read the subtitles, if I watch an english movie, of course, if it's something other then... yeah.

Subtitles all the way. I can't stand when the mouth is not synchronized to the speech.

Example - Das Boot. This should always be watched in German, with English subs as needed.

yeah, that was a pretty good movie, but not as good as some other movies.  if you really like kung-fu movies an0n (which i think you do) then get some of the somewhat older movies.  have you ever seen Iron Monkey?

The One was ok, but as stories go it sucked. Nice action though, so as an action movie it gets the ++ from me.

Styxx has hit my hatred (or one of them) of dubbing though, for one the translations and often as bad as subtitles. And the lip sinking (obviously) doesn't work.

Agreed

Allthough I must say that in Mononoke the English voice actors were very good too... nothing to be so surpriced though (Gillian A, B.B. Thornton, Minnie Driver....)

yeah, the One didn't have that good a storyline, but ther'es not many asian movies that do anyway (seriously!)... but yes, the action scenes 0wned, and they had Bagua and Hsing-I in one movie

yeah, but even worse than mouths not matching the words is voice not matching the actor... that's even worse!  where you've got this big guy with a little voice and vice-versa... there's like one man doing all the voices.

i tried to get  farscape  and other  scifi shows off winmx and it sucks
its never the full version nor  does it usually work
