If I ever mod an FPS, it'll probably be serious Sam.... you could setup the low gravity environment pretty easily, and I think you might be able to get the Shivans to run onto walls and ceilings (or Alien Vs Pred2, which I don't have, but the alien stuff could be tweaked...).

that said, I ever did a mod for Sam, it'd probably be set in a quasi WW1 trenches / evil demons world of my own creation ;)

shivans don't really run on the walls and certainly not on the ceiling btw :p

You can't ever get any real conlcusion on what engine FS FPS should be developed on.
One says UT2k3, another says Half-Life, third says Serious Sam, fourth says AvP2 and so on...

And venom2506, I didn't meant those would be their reasons. I said they could be. and FPS is FPS, who gives a ****...

but red faction is difficult to mod, and I think THAT is a good reason.

It's agreed that ease of modding would be a large factor, I've no idea how easy it is to make a model for UT2003, just that it'd look damn sweet.

Well, considering that the first UT spawned off so many great mods, they would have probably made it pretty easy...

BTW what are the differences between the U2 and UT2003 game engines? I was thinking that it might be better if we wait a month or two for the former game, since the game mechanics and everything would be better for single-player stuff.

I honestly don't know, I think they're pretty similar - there's no point in developing a completely separate engine in this instance I don't think, but I don't know what (if any) differences there are. Check out a website or something - it has to be around somewhere.

sorry to blow my own trumpet, but I can't believe no one has thought of this before!

I did a LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG Time ago (FS1) when I was great at WorldCraft, I use to make Counter-Strike missions and half life levels even taught a game development class on it in my old neighborhood. alot of kids got good @ it and made the community center we worked out of and used it as a proving grounds for saving hostages in the place. we even had custom textures etc. it was a fun mission to play. when i did the textures etc i made a few rounds but its easier now to make things happen in HL. only thing bout the HL engine is that although its still used and is great, its old. the graphics are "sorta" outdated. i cant lie even on a geforce 4 the game looks great but compared to the quake 3 arena engine (return to castle wolfenstien and medal of honor), thosegames were sick! on UT2003 even so the same thing, but modding has been easier with the quake 3 arena engine. but level editing is a ***** i just got the editor and its friggen hard to use. worldcraft is simpler and easier, but for guys like venom who can model a shivan and "cyber"demon in one that can juggle balls and back flips (which is a HELL OF ALOT OF ANIMATIONS) quake 3 arena, and or UT2003 could greatly support it.

then theres the Uber Powerful "Doom 3" Engine being developed........

its so gonna own...:thepimp:

the Original Unreal Engine was then scraped and remade the U-T engine, which is used by games like duke nukem (the new one that never dropped). i dunno it had promise, U2 and UT2003 is the same engine. just UT2003 designed more for multiplaye and arena single player games.

dunno, I can with renegade since it uses Gmax, and now I'm able to animate characters ( yeah, I can even do lipsunch now :) ), but for other games, well, depends if I can use max or not. It'sbthat simple.
Renegade is so cool for modding coz Gmax is free and super powerful ( well, it's 3dsmax after all ), so everybody can do meshes for it, westwood studio released all the converters and the tools to edit characters, vehicles and maps. Find another game with that much moodding support...

That's what I thought too; they are probably more or less the same, but U2 is designed more for singleplayer stuff. (it is probably quite possible to do it in UT2003 as it was in UT, but a bit more extra coding would first be needed)

well half life for example used 3d studio max and a plug in that made the texturing seem more realistic i forgot the exact plug in but it made the hot alien body effects and human effects that made people like the game graphically. i got gmax too, and its basically the free version of 3d studio max, which i got too, and truespace, which i got too etc etc, but i dun know how to use any of it LOL. well besides renegade, quake 1/2/3, half life, freespace, star trek armada, and a few other modable games, i thinks the Half Life Engine would be ideal for basic entry into the concept, its simpler and easier to learn but if you (anyone interested in the actual concept into the work of making this work outside red faction), the Quake 3 Arena engine is your best bet for graphical, playable, and easy creativity.

well i also forgot to say, alot of my info is what i read (about ut2003 etc), but if anyone is interested in resources on finding out how to mod or work these games we mentioned lemme add the links.

Yes, well now. Since WorldCraft is well established, and there are dozens of resource sites, I think it woul dbe the best bet, so i'm going to give it a try.

I will launch a website for it, and will be recruiting! However, it will probably just be maps, not a full blown mod with new weaps and models AS I DON'T HAVE THE SKILLS! If you think you can do this you are welcome to try. I will also need custom textures, so any artists out there, get to work, please!

The Freespace WorldCraft project!
i says use the tools @ disposal. missions i can make, textures i can obtain, hell even the ones in the game will be fine as well as FS textures, thats how i made some walls. then theres the models which can be made by anyone with modeling skills.

if ur a participant in the counter strike or half life forums and or games and comunities ask around. theres also tons of models made for half life. where r u having the website done @? if u got aol/aim: im me @: Deep Eyes NY if u wanna talk, ima be on for awhile.

BTW though, yes worldcraft is established etc, i think quake 3 arena would make a better engine. the mission editor has as many resources but nobody i know is familure with it, i sorta lol, took a class for worldcraft in a community center (federal dollars @ work for you!), and yes it is easier to use, i would prefer worldcraft for quake 3 but its a pain, then theres quake 1. which is hella easy to mod.

i needs to get my worldcraft reconfigured and fixed so things work right too many tags left uncheck, sorta like broken links on a website.
