If I could go back in time, I would go back to the time prior to World War2, assasinate Hitler and the stupid Japanese emperor. Maybe even Stalin if it happens just like the Red Alert story.

If I could go forward in time, I would learn how to develop a hyperdrive, come back and then introduce hyperdrive to this time and be rich and powerful. Then, I can live a life of luxury, surrounded with lots of naked girls. No blue bikinis! Yub yub!!!:D

From the people who brought you Nukes, comes: FTL!!! Why spend billions to destroy the Earth when a single FTL craft can doo it for just a few hundred million?

no, because real FTL couldn't be acheived by standard newtonian physics. i'd have to be space warp or something, which isn't true velocity.

Actually, you'd set off a time paradox. You see, you'd go back in time, change something, but at the same time you'd negate your need to go back in time/destroy yourself, preventing yourself from going back in time, causing the reemergance of the need to go back in time, etc.

Anyway, yeah. But you wouldn't need to be going at FTL speeds to take out a planet, anyway. A rock the size of, say, a piano going at 1/3 the speed of light would do grandly- make a mean-ass crater, punch through the planet, disrupting the core, and likely knock it off-orbit enough to send it either into the moon or the sun, whichever came first.
