So in space it does what, 2kph?  I know you didn't come up with that spec sheet, but that absurdity is worth pointing out.  Mach speeds are based on atmospheric conditions only, giving a spacecraft a mach rating doesn't actually say much.  Then again, in space speed is effectively unlimited, it's just the acceleration that one has to contend with.

Snes Ar-wing model from memory
Is it too late to pictures of a model I made of the original Snes Ar-wing?
Or do I send those to someone?

Or is it as per usual that we can post anything pertaining to this project if we're wanting to put some effort into it?

If you want to send things, you can send them to me as this project was initiated by yours truly.

Although I must warn you that currently FS2 isn't behaving when it comes to mods. I'm trying to weedle out the problems........note the word 'trying.' :(

Well, I haven't gotten as far as actual game models.  I'm just trying to figure out the bloody wings.  When I complete one, though, I'll be sure to try sending it your way.

where did you find your pictures? I could probly knock off a first edition airwing in about 30-40 mins.

They're around on the web - it's just a case of having to look hard. :)

I'm in the process of putting together the 'fourth edition' Arwing (Namco's one), having completed the wings and part of the fuselage. I'm having to make bits up though as the pics I've got don't clearly show the rear all that well, nor indeed the area between the blue fins and the fuselage. :)

Here is a screen shot of the wing-fuselage connection.

I haven’t seen anything that clearly shows the back though.

Here's a repost of all the SF2 (GCN) pics.
http://www.dkvine.com/news/gallery.php?g=sf2
I'll think of a siggie later..

I finished the model, including a cruddy but 512^2 map., but I got as far as converting it to a COB when I realized I forgot the burner.  So I added that, then realized I didn't remember how to set up the object hierarchy... >.>;;

Eh, here's what it looks like : http://www.boomspeed.com/atalhlla/arwing0.ts3.0000.jpg

Perhaps more to come later!

[EDIT]

Here's most of my reference... :P

Wouldn't mind see others' takes on the classic Arwing, though :D

2:Bugger, forgot the shield.  Should we have a shield on this baby?

Strike the hierarchy one, I think I just found it..

Nice

But something is wrong with the wings, I think.
They are supposed to be flat.

I'm in the process of doing my Arwing version, but it's nowhere near 'showable' yet as the bits aren't done! :D

Yes the wings should be flatter, but it looks good, and no, I don't think there should be a shield - just damned tough armour! :D

The original health bar in the SNES version was labeled 'SHEILD', so perhaps hull-conforming shields would be an option.
As to the pics, I think perhaps some or your reference pics are a bit odd. I'm not entirely certain what is really the 'canon' Arwing. I think perhaps the metallic-looking models in the instruction booklet would be the best to follow, and the comics are generally accurate to said model. If you want, I can get you scans of that model, I have lots of good pics. I mention this particularly because the texturing on the wings looks wrong - that yellow square on the wing should be on the front of the wing, without the black bit in front of it.

Wow, you scan all those just fer me?  Course, guess I'd do the same if I had the materials.  Sure, yeah, I'd love to get all the references I can.  :D

Thanks!

Oh, and I did make a shield mesh, already, and I fixed the wings so they're flat...

Wow, I just spent about half an hour reading this entire thread and the idea sounds lovely. However, the problem is shifting from the StarFox that we know and love to be terrain-based to space. I think it's a bit too much work to even TRY to put effort into making the worlds of SF. And even if we do make the worlds for SF, then comes the extra things like how the world itself reacts. Let's take Solar for example. That thing has waves of lava lashing out at you and baddies springing from its depths to attack you (of course we know that it shouldn't be lava, and it really shouldn't even be splashing like water at you, but it's SF). We then would have to contend with that and getting our baddies to work the way they should, with and without the world that they occupy.

Anyway, I'm thinking we should all shoot realistically. Getting all the models in-game is doable. Then, if we need to get a story going, we have to work in space, which is not that hard, but still has its downsides as we only have sectors x, y, and z to work with. I don't know, just don't wanna see another good project die. I think I will lend a helping hand to this project, but I have to be able to first. I will brush up my FRED skills and see what I can do after we get several ships working; I'll help as a storymaker. Let's make this a project that won't die.

I don't think terrain will be this hard.
It's just a big flat cube.
The buildings gonna be big cubes.

And the whole landscape will be build in FRED.

It will look Snes StaFox-like though.

But planets like Solar might be a problem.
I could create an ANI for it, but it will look bad.

I advocate a 'poly increase' to make it look as good if not better than the new Starfox game that Namco is polishing off. Setting it in space shouldn't be too much of a problem if we're willing to take the bold step of 'universe expansion' and create some minicampaigns based around space-borne action.

But as I've said, if Black Wolf and his cronies are willing to give some hints as to how they've done the landscapes in their campaign, we could have classical ground-based strafing missions too!

Now seeing it as KF sees it, building cities isn't just a matter of creating a bunch of blocks and coloring them in. We have to make the cities as detailed as the 64 ones are, and even better like KF wants.

Anyway, I think I'd be willing to take that bold step into universe expansion. I'll immerse myself into the SF world and take as much story in as I can because I think I can work with the whole space thing. I'm not so sure on my FREDding skills though, but I'll be sure to write you some stories. Of course, we've got to get this project off the ground first. I want another pretty avatar! :D

I knew I kept all those old Nintendo Power issues for a reason. You'll have the images within the week, almost certainly sooner.

Back to topic: I suggest to seperate the landscape from the buildings.
So it's easy for FREDers to "build" levels.
