Got a question and answers are needed
I was downloading movies from Kazaa at my friend's house when I suddenly thought how people out there can record entire episodes and movies and place them on the Internet for people like you and me to download.

So, I'm asking this question. How do they do it??? WHat software programs and harware are needed?

I just need to clear that lingering question from my brain.:)

A) Old movies on DVD / VHS can be ripped., newer movies (in theaters, or not even in theaters) some people are desperate enough to record it in the theaters... hence the bad quality.  others steal from the theaters i guess... haven't given it much thought

B)  That's considered warez, don't discuss it anywhere in any HLP forum.

C)  Three threads in a few minutes, that's considered Spam.  don't do that here either :p  you're not a n00b, you should know better :D

B) Thunder has declared that discussing movies is not warez

C) Posting threads is not spam, if they are non-spam threads. This is not spam.

A) Newer movies can be get from 'sources'. Most movies tend to leak through the people who make it. I mean, you can download the non-edited version of ST: Nemesis already, if I remember correctly.

a) DVD ripping is a slice o' piss. VHS can be captured with a TV card, but you need a fairly good one... Recent movies are sometimes smuggled out of the studios, or people with promtional copies occasionally duplicate them 'accidentally'...

b) Shrike has declared that he doesn't like the specifics of thieving movies being discuseed, hence my movie thread being closed.

c) Yay spam!

Stunaep, downloading movies from KaZaA is considered illegal, and so therefore shouldn't be discussed.  you should know that by now!  I don't see what's wrong with it, but admins make the rules, and we must obey them

As far as I know, though, downloading episodes is nto illegal, since it's the same as recording it from TV to VCR - often even worse quality. I could be wrong here, though.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Look, if you wanna be a bunch of old ladies in tennis shoes, screaming about locking and banning at the slightest hint of warez, go start your own damn thread. You aren't admins, you can't lock **** or have the final say in what's "allowed", you aren't providing any information that is in the least bit useful, and you're being damn annoying. You're spamming, plain and simple, and thus these posts in particular are HYPOCRITICAL spam, a yet worse breed.

Er... as for the movies, I'd have to look into it. I'm sure that, for TV, certain individuals rig up a digital movie camera of reasonable quality, a felt light blocker, and a cable TV and record directly off of their TV screen. There's no doubt ripping software available from DVD-rip rings, and thus probably most places on the Internet.

well put Stryke, however id like to see you make one post where your not attacking someone, expressing negative ideas, etc. Anyways, entire episodes can be gotten from the source, or simply recorded with a TV Tuner card. I have one, never use it, seems like a waste since i have a rather large TV perpendicular to me.

we've been through this before in this thread. HLP does not 0wn these threads. At least most of the admins don't.

Anyway, I've seen LOTR:FOTR at DVD quality (3x1.29 gigs). Never downloaded it though. Most of the movies that are on KaZaA/WinMX are sized so that they have the best possible quality (DivX) and fit on a single cd (around 730 000 000 bytes).

I definitely agree with Stryke on this one; many of these types of "controversial" threads are mostly made up of people complaining about "warez=bad!!", and this is making the place look like the VBB. Let the admins deal with that, as this serves no purpose other than to annoy the original poster.

So your stupid thread got locked. Boo boo kitty ****. That's no reason to be a public nuisance. If you don't like it, go bother the admin that locked it- PM him. Don't give everone else crap because you wanna be an infant about it.

Better yet, start up the damn thread again, and keep it from descending into the danger zone.

last time one of my threads got closed (the "8 mile" one...) by Styxx, i messaged him, apologized for promoting warez, and asked if i could open it again.  he said "sure, go ahead!  just try to keep it clean!"  so that's what i did, and if you check the second "8 mile" thread i made you'll see exactly what i said... and anyway, it gets closed by like 3 admins simultaneously... even though an ADMIN gave me PERMISSION!

oh, and btw... i edited all the stuff i said before you posted, so i'm clear

Due to the fact you didn't post in the new thread that it'd been OKd by another admin, by which point it had been dubbed spam-bait by others anyway. You know this already.

In addition, keep this on topic - television/movie recording to computers is not warez, you can watch and tape it on the TV? You can share it on the net then. If this continous down the line it's heading in, I'll lock it.
