No no, not "the past hundred thousand years."  It is "the course of a hundred thousand years."
Sesqu... Sesqui... what?

Retype the complete riddle, with no typos, please.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

It doesn't have any.  Go read it.  Knight Templar is just getting himself confused, and I'm trying to straighten him out.

well then if thats true, than it could be the birth of a star because two could be born in the same moment, but it would take longer than a hundred thousand years. :p :D

yes please re-type

EDIT: Knight Templar is just getting himself confused, and I'm trying to straighten him out.

but you just said it was different... meh i think i'll just leave this thread be untill it burns out :blah:

If two stars are born back to back, it has happened somewhere in the course of a hundred thousand years, because it happened somewhere in the course of time.

Anyway, if people are getting frustrated with this, maybe I'll just give the answer?

Maybe the answer is "the course of a hundred thousand years".  Because you can take any given period of time and say that 100,000 years are just ending or just beginning, but it takes that long to go though a complete cycle.

no no no, you can't say it that way, if that's what you meant, then say "and yet, it never happens in the course of time"

you can't have the time period change on a whim because it could be any 100,000 years, like Goob said.

Edit: wow... that was... :doubt:

Precisely.  That's why it isn't an answer to the riddle.

Holy crap - 1946!!! :eek2:

Ok, some of these are simple, some are not, and I'm not gonna pick and choose - I'll do them in order, so here goes:

"Sisters and brothers have I none, but that man's father is my father's son."

Dang, that's an easy one!

Oh, and I'm going to bed for the night, so don't solve it _too_ quick! :p

Yep; I told ya there were some _really_ easy ones. This one is a _wee_ bit harder, but not by much:

A beggar's brother died. But the man who died had no brother.

Go fer it.
