"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Argh, this is tricky.. it depends on my mood. But here goes nothing.

1: Half-Life (PC). I know it's old but I've played it more than anything else.

2: FreeSpace 2 (PC). Enough said ;)

3: Smash Brothers Melee (GC). My favourite console game, an absolute blast with friends.

4: Battlefield 1942 (PC). As with GTA3, lots of oppertunities for doing whatever the hell you feel like at the time. And with a lot of promising mods in the works it looks like things can only get better.

5: GTA 3 (PC). Huge maps, many cars. Lots of oppertunities for carnage. After years of not playing Carmageddon 2, this was just what I needed.

Unfortunately I've left no space for RTS games - I'm having a phase of not playing them at the moment. But Homeworld and TA would make it in there if I had more slots.

1. [Insert C&C Game here (any besides TS) (PC)

2. Perfect Dark/Goldeneye 64 (N64)

3. StarCraft (PC)

4. [Insert X Wing Series game here] (PC)

5. FS2 / ZELDA!! (Zelda was the first game next to mario I ever learned how/played. So uh anything with Zelda stuff in it) (PC/Console)

close runner ups: TA, WCIII, Star Trek Armada (buggy), AOE, JKII (I couldn't even play the full Single player camp.. One fo the missions where you board a Star Destroyer, you have to take an elevator soemwhere.. well my elevator never came. I tried everything) NFL Blitz, Super Smash Brothers (:D) and Mario Kart.

oh yeah, Mario RPG is awesome too.

1. Link To The Past (SNES)
2. Super Mario World (SNES)
3. FS2
4. GoldenEye (N64)
5. Tetris (The original GB version, o' course)

I lost a good three years of my life to GoldenEye's multiplayer, and I remain the undisputed champion to this day... strangely, I never liked Perfect Dark half as much...

[EDIT] Five? Five? Damn you Aldo, damn you... It feels like being asked "right, you can only keep one of your four limbs, which one d'you want?"

Immeadiatly reply with "Mr. Happy."

I actually liked Perfect Dark better. Everything was cooler save no james bond or russians. But the bots rocked, especially if all of your friends left because they said you were cheating because they couldn't beat you. :D

LTP was awesome.. I've lost so much of my life to those games. (Did you ever get all of the Heart containers? The most i've got is 19 and 1/4. I could never find a reason why i should go back and get the last 3 :p )

*Remembers being so happy and almost crying when getting Zelda 64*

19 3/4. I spent years searching the length and breadth of Hyrule for the last one, but I just... couldn't... find it...

And as great as Ocarina was, I'd rather play Link To The Past any day of the week. Actually, having siad that, Majora's Mask was... well, breathtaking, really. Weird as hell, but uber-deep and detailed. I loved the feeling of being trapped in a nightmare where you tried your best to save the world, but you'd fail and the three-days would be reset and you'd have to watch all the little guys scurrying around to their doom for the nth time... you feel so sad for them... and the final battle with Majora was :shaking: When you get sucked up in to the Moon, and suddenly all the noise and shaking stops and you're stood in a field with grass and butterflies and those creepy kids playing hide-and-seek... great stuff from Mr Myamoto, though the sheer size of it was somewhat intimidating when I came to replay it... even thought the actual main quest is shorter than Ocarina (in tems of the number of dungeons you have to do), I just felt overwhelmed knowing how huge the world outside Clock Town is (though it's beautiful, and I do like to visit Termina for a bit of sight-seeing occasionally)

my thoughts exactly... :p

These are the more recent ones I can think of:
1: Deus Ex
2: Freespace 2
3: Unreal Tournament 2003
4: Mission Critical
5: Battlezone 2

I bet I missed many there...

Has anyone played this really old dos game called Supaplex? (or its mac version, Infotron) I must have spent literally thousands of hours with that game in my earlier years, and I recently found a windows version of it with extra levels and an editor, so I am very happy now. :D

Freespace/FS2: Still playing after all these years.

Doom/Doom 2: The first game I ever modded for. It still has a certain 'charm' even though I can go through each level on Nightmare with my eyes closed using only a pistol without taking any damage.

Descent/D2/D3: I played D2 for hours at a time over several summers. From dusk till dawn, literally.

Sim City 2000: That was a great game. More than the original, but without the sluggishness and irritating bugs of SC3K. It also got me into the online community, swapping buildings and cities.

Perfect Dark: No FPS has ever come close to that level of customizing and gameplay, let alone on a console. The character models were horrendous but the rest of the game more than made up for it.

Descent 2 was my first game-modding experience, followed by C&C; this is where I first discovered all the neat stuff that could be done with a game. :D
