Browning M204 quad-.50 calibre machine gun
Another one for the 158th, the Browning M204 quad-.50 calibre machine gun. If you look carefully, you can see the chain intake on the side, and the shell release on the bottom.

I still need to work on some of the materials. Some of the metals didn't come out right. I tried to dim down the chrome a bit, and model in some more detail. I got a bit carried away (as shown on the mounting hasps on top).

if you want I _think_ I still have my old M2 Browning .50 cal manual around here somewhere, if you think details on the current might help any.

Nah. I'm not looking for authenticity. It just needs to look snazzy for loadout ANIs.

One of these days I'll go an add casings and stuff and set that up so I can put it into a high poly ship model.

I think it would look better with ether three or five barels, four doesn't look as good IMHO

Five would be extreme, I think, so I tried with three. I think you might be right, Bobboau, but I'll need to replace the forward barrel collar to be a triangle, if I do that.

Actually .......IF this can be done... the three barreled version without a triangle ....and have the main barrel assembly rotate.

Gives it more of an Agis (sp?) feel to it. Which in theory would actually do more damage as the rotation of the barrels moves the aimming point thus creating a larger targetting pattern :)

Aegis. And the barrel unit is rigged for rotation, Warlock. I just don't know that I like the bulky forward collar with only three barrels.

Ack. What I mean is that I rigged the model so that the barrels rotate, if someone wants to do that in an animation.

I was correcting your spelling of Aegis. ;)

Looks heavy

Personally, I always stand by even numbers- fours and eights for miniguns and similar sorts of shapes. Looks more balanced, and eight is dense enough to get that cool rolling effect when you animate them for spin, without getting everything all crowded. If you want a small number of barrels, I recommend twinning it and leaving it more of a two-sided design.

BTW: If those barrels with the vent-holes are modeled (not transparency-texed) can you email me a model of one of them? When I try to do vented cylinders with Booleans my software goes all funky, and gives me something harder to describe. I think it's what Lovecraft was going on about when he described horrific non-Euclidean shapes...

Done. Its one of the barrel shrouds off this model, in fact, so is a bit higher poly than it strictly needs to be.

Not a problem, I can probably chop it up as needed. 'S what I'm starting to do with my old models rather than make new greebles anyway, so I need the practice. Thanks.

What format, by the way?

You mean Phalanx?  AEGIS is a combined radar-battle management system.

Anyhow, put something in the barrels.  I'm surprised Warlock didn't point it out, but those perforated barrels are, well, ****ty for actually shooting.  You drill a couple dozen holes down the sides of a rifle barrel and see how well it shoots.

Oh, and if you're really up for a challenge....... rifle the inside the barrels.

I'm not seeking accuracy, Shrike. I'm just trying to make it look spiff. :D

Rifling is the twisting shallow grooving that imparts spin to a bullet giving it more accuracy, yes? It'd be a real waste of polygons for little visual effect to do that for these models.

Shrike: Actually, that's not very hard to do. Assuming he's using MAX, you could just apply a deformer to a tube with some grooves booleaned into it, and no doubt there are similar functions in other things. RDS you wouldn't even have to do that much.:D
