OK... I'm using v2 of Kazaa Lite (as you do), but since I can't find any useful help links on either the Kazaa Lite or KMD sites, I thought I'd give you lot a chance to save the day...

For reasons unknown, Kazaa seems to be gobbling up my processor cycles. I had v1.72 running just fine, then when v2 came out I installed that (having made sure the old version was completely removed first, natch). When I ran it, I noticed my PC was suddenly uber slow, so I checked the processes list only to notice that Kazza.exe was eating over 90% of my processor. So, I uninstalled v2 and put v1.72 back on, but now the old version was doing that same thing. So I stuck v2 back on (for the sheer hell of it), but still no joy. It seems to start low and build up, from around 40% to between 85-98% of my processor's resources. Most disconcerting, I can tell you.

Suggestions and/or links, anybody?

The *****es use your computer's "Un-used processing power" to do calculations for companies.

Try clicking the "Do not function as a super-node" button thingamajig.

And Kazaa Lite will fix that? (How can you be sure you've cleaned out all the crud a Kazaa install might bring with it anyhow?)

Adaware, though that will show you that Kazaa Lite still has some spy ware.

I've got the 'do not function as supernode' box checked. However, I did notice whilst reading the Kazaa FAQ that Kazaa can assign your pc as a supernode if it wants - it won't even tell you it's done it. KMD claim that being a supernode will use about 10% of your processor power, but frankly if they're pulling as fast one with making your pc a surreptitious supernode, than I don't see what's stopping them lying outright about the ammount of power it'd drain.

Hmm...

Apparently the full Kazaa could install things on your machine without asking.

Which is why I don't use it.

[doesn't use either, and has none of these problems, thank you very much]

Problem with Kazaa is it's basically the biggest entity of its kind right now- it's inevitably going to sell out more than anyone else, 'cos it's more in demand. You use less popular ones, though, you can still get almost a million-strong user base (as much as you'll likely ever need) with none, or damn little, of this crap.

for me the pb is not the processor power, it's the bandwidth...

Much as I love WinMX, it hasn't got a fraction of the content of Kazaa. Now if I could get WinMX's face on Kazaa's body... ;7

I dont know, Kazaas interface seems much more straightforward...a bit chunky but everythings kept in its place, there's way to many buttons on the frontend of MX for my liking.

Plus it seems to have real issues finding connections for me... I'm lucky to get 1K a second out of this thing and I'm on DSL... Kazaa gave me no problem in that department.

Since you guys seem to have it working well perhaps you can help me in working out what I'm doing wrong? All the files I've tried searching for have been either very few matches found or the servers are ****e... terrible download speeds when I can finally connect to them.

Am I doing something wrong?

No, it's a real art to find the file you want and get it downloading. Like, it took me about a week to find a downloadable SW Episode 2 and thean about two days to download it.

Oh, BTW Thunder, how many matches you consider as "few"?

About 4 or 5? And when only one of those is from a server I can download from at any respectable speed (+5Kbps)...

This is of course regarding movies, music and other large files.
