Yes, but I just said that was a completely unrelated issue, which was caused by how the forums were arranged and not by any actual hacking.  We'd been having that problem off and on for a lot longer than Vadar had been hacking, and him sneaking into other forums was not proof that he was actively hacking.

You know full well my state of business for the recent few months - if I could devote my time to looking after HLP more then I would but if it can be dealt with by others then I'm more than happy to let them do it. Given that I have a lot of work to do. Additionally, I am not someone who knows much about hacking. I'd not know where to start looking, how to prove who had done it and so on. I'd be almost entirely useless as someone to track down a hacker - the only reason I found out who altered my avatar (not Vadar_1 btw...) was because A) I was told, B) Gamespy came through with the FTP access logs.

EDIT:  Shrike, at the time i didn't know that hacking someone's profile and hacking forums was a different issue.  i thought that ANYTHING could help, so i reported both.  obviously, the method he was using to hack the profiles would allow him to access internal forums too, so it really was the same issu

i've saidit before, i'll say it again:

if you're a retired admin, then why do you take part in discussions between staff members?  i'm not a spoilt child, i'm just hoping that through this you'll learn a lesson:  that not everyone (myself included) is out to frame other people

That's where you're wrong.  Other people have accessed internal forums (sometimes by accident) without needing to hack.  It's not exactly something that's simple to do, but it's entirely possible to do without hacking the system.  In fact, hacking the system would have meant he could look at the information in the private forums without showing up....... because he wouldn't have been going through the board.

Actually, he used two completely unrelated methods, and both of them have been removed from all users on this board.

1)  yeah, Shrike brought that to my attention... that's weird that he had permission in the first place... quite a coincidence.  would it have been possible for him to assign forum permissions to himeself though?

2) *shrugs*... hacking may be fun, but you can get in serious trouble for it, which is why i stay away from that kind of thing

If he can hack your file, he can hack his own.  But doing so would have made it really obvious what he had done.

Simple, because with Setekh not around so much I'm the only other co-creator of the site. I offered to remove my staff access but I was told that wasn't necessary. Therefore for what it was worth I check the staff forum and put forth my opinion when a matter is being discussed. Would you treat me any differently if I was a non-retired admin? You shouldn't be able to say "yes".

And when you're dealing with something as serious as a possible IP banning then you really don't want to assume that the first person to come to you is necessarily the right one. Nobody assumed you were framing anyone, but it was a possibility that couldn't be ignored untill better evidence that the staff themselves had obtained. Seems kinda obvious really.

Nothing wrong with learning to do it, you can get a legitimate job and it helps you develop programming skills, actually hacking sites is *bad* IMO.
