Since THE TWO TOWERS is soon upon us, I thought a little poll to see what species anyone would want to be if they had a chance to live in the Tolkien world?

Me? Elf... Live long, fight hard, get hot chicks, act casual... :D

no magical powers for elves in Middle Earth, sorry ;) magical items at best.
I wouldn't be an orc, coz Tolkien orcs are gay ( warhammer or warcraft orcs on the other hand... ). I'd be a human, coz I don't wanna live in a blue, eerie forest :p

Elves (aside from the maiar) as the MOST magical race on earth (lets see WHO HEALS frodo again??? Umm let think, ELROND... I have a question? have ANY of you read the Simirillian??? It explains everyting about Middle Earth and is 10 times better than the threemovies (yeah lets make one BIG epic) cause it has like 10 Generations of Elves  fighting the real bas ass MELKOR (Sauron was a twit who got seduced by him) Now that was a badass!

Turin Deathslaker faced the mother of all black dragons BY HIMSELF! (Now that's balls)... *watch out for Tiara Turin* ;)

I can't begin to list all the typesof magic taught to elves and then the men of Numeror (ancestors of Gondor)...

find out for your self..

ICE (Iron Crown Enterprises) made an adaptaion of Middle Earth Role-Playing and those books come THE CLOSEST I've seen to accurately describing the Looks, abilities, and goodies possesed by the denizens... I often used it as canon for my D&D games (converting the stats and abilities of course) straight up Middle Earth people wipe the floor with anyone! Had to tone them down a bit ;7  To make it fair and all...

yes, one: how come you associate healing with magic? we don't see Elrond healing Frodon. And as I've said i've read many tolkien books, and if indeed magic is linked a lot to elves, this magic only appears through magical items ( galadriel mirror, magic weapons etc ). They wouldn't have been tricked by Sauron otherwise, I suppose. There's no human magician, etc. Only magicians you'll find are the istari, Sauron, and that's all the maiar left on middle earth I think. I don't know about the Balrogs, anyway, in all the tolkien books I've read, I've never see anybody else than Gandalf and saruman cast a spell. Oh, I grant magical habilities to Tom Bombadil too.
Voila. Oh: I could be very wrong, I'm far from knowing everything about tolkien, but as far as I'm concerned, all the OFFICIAL writtings I know proves me right on that point. Not that t really matters, after all, now that I think of it. The only real point is:
Tolkien orcs are gay! back to my wharammer army, the GutReapa's :D

When will people realise that the Lord of the Rings films are just ways to exploit the gullible and weak minded, forcing them to but vast amounts of crap.

But then, what film isn't.
Look at Die Another Day, nothing more than a two hour advert for Aston Martin and Nokia.

Whats so bad about commercialism anyway? I'm hoping HEAVILY on it for my future, cause my career depends on it! I make movies, people go and watch, I get money. I'm happy. :D Anyway, if it wasn't fo commercialization, no of us would be on the internet! So long live the money system and long live the movies! :D

Venom is 100% correct in every way on this one.

it should be said that the Balrogs are Maiar. That doesn't imply they had magical abilities, though.

In Tolkien's world, "magic" seems to be chiefly about domination over the will of others, and elemental forces such as the weather (see Saruman and Caradhras), nature (see Radagast) and of course Sauron's control over Orodruin.

When Glorfindel/Arwen (depending on whether you read it or watched it) summoned the flood waters of the Bruinen, he/she calls to Uinen, who is of course one of the sea god Ulmo's *****es (so that was all about calling for help fomr the Valar, which is the other main "magical" aspect of the elves)
