All I remember is that he was Turin's father, and there's something in there about that city hidden in the mountains (the one where Glorfindel died slaying a Balrog, I believe) and something else about Ulmo.

There's always the possibility of you admins actually disabling the vote bumping thing, of course (at least I presume there is). You're not the only ones who get annoyed by it - though it is keeping my S:AAB thread in the top half of the FREDding forum, more or less :D

At the risk of DGs wrath, Tolkien rather disappointed me. One of my friends is a fairly big LOTR fan, not obsessed, but big enough that he would regularly suggest I start reading them. So one day I sat down and read the Hobbit. It bored the **** out of me. Tolkien is so boring and prissy and overdescriptive. He wastes too much time on unimportant stuff, sacraficing the story for needless overdetailing.

That said, I have the most enormous respect for the amazing complexity of the Elfin language, the concept of something like the silmarillion and the basic story of LOTR. Tolkiens writing style just spoiled it IMO.
