OT - My New Precioussss... (NOT about LOTR...)

The iRiver iMP-350 SlimX CD/MP3 player - indisputably the best one on the market (with the exception of it's brand-new upgraded sibling, the iMP-400...).

Check out the specs and pics, or read a review.

Personally, I just love it. :D I forgot to post about it when I got back from my trip, what with catching up to HLP and all, but I finally remembered. I have never been more satisfied with having spent $150 as I have with the SlimX.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

This is my toy :)

Simply drag and drop MP3's onto the minidisc and it converts them. Takes about half an hour to do a full disc but if the files are already converted it takes about 10 minutes.

Holds about 80 songs (280 minutes) on a single minidisc, takes one battery. In fact I used a single AA battery, 8 hours a day for an entire week.

Expensive but oh so worth it :)

For that money you could get the Nomad Zen which can take 333 hours of music on it (comparing it to the net md) init.

Yeah but I already had a minidisc player before I got it, so I had loads of discs knocking about so it's like 280 minutes * 15 discs. I don't think I even have that much music and it doesn't matter that it's not solid state because the anti-shock is the most incredible I've ever experienced.

I'll stick with my Archos.  I can stuff the biggest 2.5" (notebook) hard drive in it and tote it around and play music/audiobooks all day, and it works as a standard windows hard drive. AND you can use it with any system that has stereo inputs or a tape deck (ie: most). Even with its current 6gig drive, I can't use all the space for music. I'm no audiophile, so I sample at 96kbs for music and 16kbs for spoken word. its got DAYS of music--and the batteries last for about 2 days per charge.

Oh, and its upgradable. :D

This is mine. :D I've had this for about for years or something. This is almost the exact same model except mine is probably older than this model and has smaller buttons. :p

I'm not sure to be honest but I have it in my pocket at work all day (9 hours constantly) and I'm bumping it about and knocking it quite severely a lot and it's never skipped because of that. In fact the only time it skips is if I get dust on the discs.

But what annoys me about anti-shock usually is the battery drainage, my old MD used to go through a battery every two hours if it was bumped about all the time. This thing would probably run on air given the chance :)

I've got a Sony MZ-R37 minidisc player, got it two years ago.  Not quite as spiffy, but it fits in my pocket and that's all that counts!

Joey's looks alot like my old Koss.

I now use a sony.  That thing rarely skips (ie: end of battery)

My newest gadget (thanks to christmas;) ) is a Canon ZR-40 Mini DV Camera.  It is mighty sweet!  And cheaper than the Sony equivalent.

I don't think my Archos has ever skipped. I've used it whilst jogging, without incident.

Ooh..I just got a Creative Nomad Jukebox 3 AND a crappy Emerson. I'm using the Nomad right now. 20 gigs of space. Very nice.

Yours looks like it was designed around the year 2015, though. I love the way it looks, and I don't want to read the review because it'll make me feel inferior. :p

*drools*

Dude! That itsy bit of zoom is equivalent to twice the megapixelage for pictures you can't get any close to, and that extra megapixelage is equivalent to a bit more zoom otherwise!

*disagrees with Setekh for once in his life*
