Deus Ex - chewing the fat.
I'm bored and I need to talk to some one about Deus Ex. Everyone at school either hates it or has never heard of it, the DX community is smaller than the fleas on a tick, and if I don't discuss it soon I will explode.

So.

I have completed DX about 8 times, and every time I play it I find somethin new. Yesterday, for instance, I discoverd med bots inside the stacks of crates on Liberty Island, I never knew they were there!

I found that on my first go. Completely by accident of course. But speaking of Liberty Island, I only recently found the sunken ship out by where the guy gives you the key to the statue.

And another thing, were Lucious DeBeers and Bob Page working with each other or something? Cos in Area 51, in the office above the patroling Military Spider Bot and the entrance to Sector 4, there's an email from him to Bob. Hmm.

Wouldn't know about that.

Do you usually kill DeBeers, or let him be?

Also, when I first played it I found scuba divers in the Wan Chai canals, but naver have since.

Usually I kill him. Never seen any scuba divers there. And there's supposed to be an augmentation or something in there to from some wealthy VersaLife guy. Never found that either.

Ooo... DeusEx. :)
I like the game, I have completed it only once, mainly because I somehow dislike the beginning. It is really good later though.

I am waiting for DeusEx2 with anticipation. :)

You should complete it three times at least really.

Yep, Deus Ex 2 looks really good. Bit concerned at how it's not going to be as long as the first one. they say how most people don't have time to sit and play really long games these days, but I rather like it. And it's not like you actually have to play the whole thing through at once. :sigh:

I can talk about this game all day. Still my favorite single-player experience, and I have gone through the game some 17 times now. :D

Actually, there are a number of points in this game that are absolutely hilarious due to unintentional things done by the designers. This has to be both the most "serious" and the most comical game I have ever seen. :D

I noticed that too, but it sort of makes sense considering that Page was once an Illuminati member. This particular computer seems to have very old messages on it.

I found that the second time I played, but then again, I didn't know that Paul Denton and Jock could be saved until I played the seventh or eighth time. :p The nonlinearity of this game is just awesome.

If you liked System Shock 2, you'll probably like DX.

You HAVE played SS2, right? :mad2:

Still playing through it; I only started a few days ago. :p (wish I had played it earlier though, since it's great) The two games are indeed quite similar in their gameplay mechanics, interface and so on. Some things are better in SS2 and other things are better in DX, but all things considered I like them about the same.

Here's some interesting Deus Ex stuff BTW:

I very recently found a hidden reload mod in the game; the second time you go into UNATCO headquaters to recieve orders, there is a reload mod in Manderley's bathroom behind the trashcan; I found this quite by chance while ghosting through the level and playing around. One other thing I found out just a few weeks ago was that the door lady at the Lucky Money is carrying a crapload of money, so if she dies in the MJ12 raid you can get all her cash. :D

Then, to mention some of the funnier things in the game, in the MJ12 Pacific Rim lab (under Versalife), there are a number of strange things that can be done here. In the corner of the lab area, where there is a dead karkian, two scientists, a flamethrower MIB and a gas barrel, you can hit the barrel with a knife to make it go off without destroying it, and then slowly push it towards the MIB. He does not notice it at all and just goes "ouh! ouh! ouh! ouh!" etc. for a minute or so until he dies and explodes. Even after that, nobody suspects that you are doing anything. :D Then, there is another MIB in a nearby area with an assault rifle, but he only has a single clip of ammo, and if he runs out of ammo he just runs away (this can be seen by releasing the greasels and getting him mad at them). Lastly, the funniest trick here is somewhat difficult to do but great to watch; recall that they have captured a bum there. If you release the bum and get very lucky, he will occasionally survive all the way up to the door at the top of that large room. (to improve his chances, block the short staircase there with something until he clears the door so the agents don't kill him right away) The MIBs should still be chasing him as he runs away. Now, if he makes it to the area where the soldiers' quarters are, they get mad at the MIBs for some reason and you get to watch a big fight between the troops and the special agents. :D :D

There are a number of such things in the game that really make it two games in one; the most engrossing and serious game as well as the most hilarious game I have ever seen. :D (the best area in the game for this sort of fun stuff is without a doubt the Paul Denton/UNATCO fight in the hotel) About the only thing I don't like about the game are the gigantic save game files. :blah:

How far into the game are you? Which starting career did you choose? Which difficulty level are you playing on?

And about the downloaded version, does it have cutscenes?

That's enough questions for today.

I've only played DX through about 2.5 times :(

However, I think I'm going to start covering that missing half now. :D

you actually took the time to write that? :p :D (although I do know what you're talking about it; is Icarus a spammer or something? :D)

By the way, in the nearby office building there (number 14), there is a phone over which he talks to you. Nothing really important, but I did not know about it until the 14th time I played.

So far I am at the point where you are about to enter the maintenance hatch on deck 2 (where you fight the maintenance bot) and I'm playing as a navy guy on hard. I have been using the good old wrench on just about everything (and mostly save pistol for cameras and turrets). :D This version is just a cd-rip, so the cutscenes have been dropped out unfortunately, but there is a manual with the story so far and stuff.

Did you actually find a working link for that? I was looking around for almost an hour without success and ended up just getting the full one from HOTU. (their servers are extremely slow though and the file is 243mb, so expect a full night download if you are doing it there) At the time I wasn't really sure if it would be worth all that, but now I am convinced. Now if only I could find a retail copy...

Also, here is another funny tidbit in Deus Ex. :D There are certain special doors in the game with strange properties that make the AIs act really silly when using them. One such door is at the front entrance to the hotel in the Paris streets, and another door is the one leading from the main area to the bathroom in Paul Denton's hotel room. For the first one, you need to get someone to walk through it; if you antagonize and kill the two thugs in the bar there, the bartender will run outside through the front door. When he is returning, make sure the door is closed as he is going back into the building. If you do it right, he will get stuck inside the door and it will keep opening and closing over and over again with him in it. :D If you talk to him, your head keeps turning to face him as he moves around with the door, and the camera gets a bit messed up when centered on him. The Paul Denton door has a number of weird characteristics which become apparent if he happens to run into the bathroom while fighting the MIBs and soldiers; play around with it and see what happens. :D
