Is there anyone still using voodoo based GFX cards?
The voodoo based cards can't used the transparent colors, so I wondered: is there still anyone using that?

lets hope not!... I don't think voodoos work in OGL in windozer XP as well! (based on experience mind so correct if wrong)
All my friends trhat hade Vooers have been 'convinced' by me to get rid of them and replace with newer cards (it took them a non working game at a LAN to finaly figure it out though!)

EDIT: Too avoid cloging his thread much more, reply to post below:

please note that if you are using one and don't mention it,  I won't bother about you and there will be no hope for you if you complain afterwards because you have ugly green areas on some ships .

i do:p
btw the green thing is something- i think- that works specifically with direct 3d, so probably there shouldn't be any prob playing with a voodoo in direct3d, in any case there aren't more than 3-4 guys with a voodoo card, so...
ask instead if this will work with OGL too..

that's not the pb: the green thing is something that has always been in FS2, I've had a ship using that for ages now ( from the first days I made ships for FS2, figure ), and out of all tests, it always worked fine save with voodoo based graphic boards, so if there's only a couple guys using those, well, I'm sorry for them, but I won't restrain myself from using a cool feature just for those guys...

I still use a Voodoo, but FS isn't installed on here any more (needed room for my mp3's).  So have fun.

I've still got an old Orchid Richous Voodoo 1 card that I sometimes use for older games.  There is a way to get around windows XP by using different card and graphics drivers.  The thing also got some custom mods on it to keep it going.

But other than as a secondary card I don't use it for much.

[color=66ff00]I'm still using a V3 2000 but my friend is very kindly giving me his old GF2mx so that won't be a problem for very long. I always liked my humble voodoo card though, it always allowed me to play almost everything I wanted to.
V3's are OGL compatible (if you play CS you would use OGL as preference, dunno about 4's and 5's though, I've never even seen one in real life. ;)

*looks at V3 with a certain amount of warmth in heart*

I have been using a Voodoo 3 16 bit for a couple of years now (roughly), and it has done me proud.

With 3Dfx, it handles semi-transaprent effects well enough.  3-5 of my games have such textures and I have had no problem.

However, my computer just got a processor upgrade (almost triple speed ;) ), and while it has an built in card, I'll be using my fathers old card, a 32 bit one, don't know the make (I'm getting it because he got himself a 64 bit one for Xmas!).

So I guess my old Voodoo is going to be consigned to the spare parts box

Ahhh, when you'd sell your own mother for a Voodoo 2, and now, if she gave you one, you'd laugh in her face.

to be honest, I'd happy happy to get a voodoo1. There's was a couple games I have that run only with that card, and that I would play again if I could.

Hmm, its a similar situation to wanting a crap PC in order to play old games, like Privateer 2, I suppose.

I still have and use my V3 2000 and don't intend to change it. The green color thing is a D3D "feature" that doesn't look right under Glide. It will look right under D3D, but most everything else doesn't. If you really want invisible faces, just give them the "invisible" texture. That should work on all cards in all modes. It effectively does the same thing, and you can control whether ships can pass through it or not. (Unlike the green texture thing.)

it's not "exactly" what I have in mind :p
with green color, I did very cool looking griders for exemple. doing that with the invisible pcx would require quite a lot of additional polys.

What might be a good solution would be if someone could setup an option where you could make bright green (or any other color) make those pixels transparent for any rendering mode, thus allowing partial transparent textures. (OpenGL and Glide must have something like D3D has.) Playing FS2 in D3D mode on a Voodoo 3 is worse then playing in the forgotten software rendering mode IMHO.

Well, after upgrading my comp, I don't have a Voodoo anymore. My Nvidia GeForce 2 Ultra works fine, but I think some of my games don't work as well because of that. Newayz, I loved my Voodoo 3 2000. I don't understand why everyone here thinks it was\is so bad. I played FS2 in 1024x768 in 32-bit on a 300Mhz system, and it played very smoothly. That was using 3Dfx Glide, mind you. I can't really compare that card to my current card cuz I can't even get FS2 to run! :sigh:
