what's the good point? Ok the guy plays good lord, and wants to defend the thing. OK, fine. Now I'd answer:
why giving a second chance? for cheaper you have a 9700 that doesn't make any noise, doesn't take a PCI slot, runs about as fast. what's here to argue about?. Many people, for some reason, seems to dislike ATI. I guess the guy loved his old GeForce, period.

  • Away in RL land. Back later.
This in particular:

But after really thinking about it, did the FX really get smoked? In all of the benchmarks, neither the FX nor the 9700 Pro leapfrog each other. Is NVDA going under? Ha, a gross overstatement made by n00bs (why are there so many people who registered this week? Anyone else see this?).

[/q]

Perhaps more an "eye of the beholder thing", but the FX did essentially tie with the R300, which is the point from my POV.

Then there's the noise ( :ick ) and the  IQ. The PCI is a non-issue for me, as the PCI slots are placed quite a bit away from the AGP slot on my mobo.

I'm looking to upgrade soon, and I want the FX to do well, so I have more to choose from. I read in Tom's review, that the vendor could change stuff as they pleased, and want to see what they do. These boards will probably not be out before March. Hopefully ATI will launch the R350 in March, as well. Also, if prices goes down a little while I wait isn't going to hurt anybody. :)

Urge to upgrade: Rising :shaking:

Now I can't play Op Flashpoint without my jaw going through the floor.

I got the 9000 version also. Doesn't really improve fs2 in my opinion, but it sure makes UT2k2 look awesome in all the highest resolutions, detail, and maximum players.

EDIT: I really want the 9700 though...

well, by the look of it, it's anything save the FX right? why bothering with the pbs if the best thing that the FX has is a tie?
I'm happy to wait for my 9700 ;)

Umm....its still in BETA.  The thing is running on beta hardware and beta drivers.  Are you honesty going to expect that thing to perform flawlessly?  Lets get real people.

Secondly, the airflow system is actually a good thing since it greatly reduces the heat introduced into the case.  It blows the hot air produced by the GPU out of the case where it belongs.  Also, it only takes up a single PCI slot (slot 1) which is shared with the AGP bus anyways so putting another card there would be asking for IRQ trouble.

Lastly, there is a company that has gotten the noise down to 7dB (which is far better on the ears than 70. :D).  However, if you're REALLY going to be a nazi about it....watercool the damn thing! ;7

Well, I have been reading the preliminary reviews on the FX, and it actually seems to perform slower than the 9700 in most cases; it has a good lead in the synthetic benchmarks but falls short in games. Granted, some consideration has to be made for the state of the drivers, but the thing is that the R9700 Pro has been out for quite some time now.

I couldn't care less about the noise or the PCI slot, as I am used to a good 220db and have four open slots that I don't plan to use otherwise. It really depends on what the retail prices come out as and how much new drivers improve performance. I would also be interested in seeing how this upcoming R350 processor performs.

FX seems to perform well, but the noise...

The difference between it and Radeon 9700PRO isn't huge, though I guess better drivers will make it bigger.

Uh, sure.

Except that you'd be dead in that noise. That's like few times louder than a rocket's launch. :p
