Another problem I can't solve...

Some time ago, I updated my PCs memory (from 64 to 256) and bought GeForce 4. Before, I also had WinXP but now installed ME.

But now, I've noticed a strange problem - it runs slower than before (kind of). Though most of the games are running fine, all kinds of video files are ultra slow - .avi files are running bad .mov files are even worse...things like that. And it ran better with WinXP and 64 megs of ram... :doubt:

who knows... probably ME

exactly what was it you changed in the computer... was it only:

Graphics card
Operating system
upgraded RAM (are you using the same kind of RAM or are you using different?)

right?

Yes, video card, sdram and operating system.

twothings,
1) do you have the same kind of ram? are you sure it's compatible?
2) did you format properly?

yes, I have sdram and it's connected

I think so...I don't think anything went wrong

I'd reformat again but I've got about 300 megs of stuff that i can't lost...

let's see.

1, make sure your geforce has the latest drivers.

2, make sure you ME has all the updates.

3, it could be a memory leak, or god nows what ****. in that case, a google search is in order, and prepare to meddle with your bios.

How could the latest drivers affect the video performance?

And...memory leak? Er...like, wtf is this?

Firstly: Different operating instructions for the video card, better optimisations etc... make for better performance from the card.

Secondly: When memory is used for an application but then never freed up when you start doing other stuff - it remains "in use" and so instead of using 256MB you might find yourself with an effective 64MB left or something...

At least I think thats right...

The memory isn't a problem here. Just something with video FPS...

And it never used to be like this? Perhaps just uninstalling you video card and all drivers then reinstalling with the latest drivers only might solve it...

Nope, it's the first time. Funny...before I had an old ATI graphics card, 64 megs of ram and WinXP. All videos ran fine.

I don't know about reinstalling video drivers though. Last time, it ****ed up my PC but now I have about 60 megs of Third Twilight data on my hard drive and I'm not going to take the risk.

well, and where do you think the video is loaded while playing:sigh: .

So,

www.nvidia.com
www.google.com
www.microsoft.com

download those, then come back.

Oh, one more thing. Sometimes using less memoryeating progs helps. Try, bsplayer for example.

That was 8 megs, right? And just see if they´re updated first. And you can upload the TT stuff to the 3dap server, I could burn it for ya.

[edit] oh... you meant system ram.. sry

Well...I currently have 165 megs of free ram but videos are still slow as hell. Video card is working as it should be, all drivers are updated, ASPI downloaded, all latest video decoders installed, scandisc and reg cleaners are done...still the same. :sigh:

Two more things I can recommend:

1: Try tuning your hardware acceleration for sound and video up or down. see if that helps.

2: Do a clean boot and see if its a software bug
