As far as I can tell they change size! I mean in some episodes they can hide behind tall tower blocks, at other times they seem to dwarf the same tower blocks. You're right though, they should only be a couple of hundred feet tall.

I've been thinking about doing that, I've done it with an Aelous but it was hidden by the Twin Towers so i've decided to keep it to myself.
