Learn some anatomy, how faces work, think of the design in terms of how the skin will stretch over the skull and how the hell things like the eyes are even gonna fit inside the head, and until you have a less blotchy skin tex (unless that's intentional), use a consistent color and an organic (cellular or equivalent) bump map set on high detail.
