Hey guys, I need some information/help once again :)

I need a forum that requires registration to use but doesn't run on a script like PHP... it's got to be very simple, basic stuff. But with a little control over it at the admin end.

Does such a thing exist?

Erm, how do you want it to work then? Applets? Javascript? Unless you're willing to use at least some form of server-side processing, you won't find anything.
Probably away. Contact through email.

Thats just it, I'm not sure - all I know is that the server doesn't support much in the way of server side stuff (like PHP) which limits what I can do with it...

I was once a member of a CnC modding community that had a custom forum made for it.  Basic stuff, no sub-threads and registration wasn't fully supported (anyone could post, but IP ban was still possible).  It runs on cgi scripting if I remember correctly.  Try http://xccu.sourceforge.net/ to get a look at the forum; the webmaster of that site wrote the forum script and distributed it for a short time.  Depends on what you want to do, but it'd be worth asking him I'd think.
who needs a signature? ;)
It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

So what does it support?

If there's no cgi-bin, no server-side scripting of any kind, then hosting a forum is out of the question.

Just out if curiousity where is it exactly that you are trying to host these message boards, someone with past experience with the location in question might be able to help you.

Most free hosting sites won't support a full thing like php boards, but some will sort limited php and most do support various forms of java script.  You can get java based forums available free from the net, though it's been ages since I checked where.
Thats no moon... hes dropped his pants!

Turns out I do have a CGI-BIN but no idea how to use it, the site in question is:

www.worthingcollegesu.com

Feel free to look around - any and all help would be great :)

seems to be an IIS server, so you should be able to use ASP, at least. maybe there's even some ODBC drivers on it, so you can use that to connect to databases...

Just host the forum somewhere else. I mean, does it really matter if it ain't on the same servers as the site?

Just stick an I-frame on the forum page with the boards inside it.

make the page one big i-frame, so it looks like you're actually at the page.

i know an0n recommends you use EZ-Board... he thinks it's the best free forum you can get... i know i disagree with him, but oh well, he's entitled to his opinions

EZ-board is ok, if you have something like free surfer, coz otherwise the popups will drive you crazy.

The best easiet board using alot of CPU is CGI boards by YABB.

If your not going to use PHP, why bother? You will end up going to PHP eventually.

Hey just get a site on www.spaceports.com just for the forum. It's the best I've found for PHP and MySQL.

If you going to do that, get phpBB2 at www.phpbb.com
I have big plans, now if only I could see them through.

Far as free boards go, phpbb2 and XMB are the best, but they both run offa php.

Methinks CuteCast runs off of Perl (.pl) files, so that might work. If vB hand't forced me to wipe my database, I coulda shown y' a working copy of it.

NEVER use YaBB or EZ-Board.

Gosh you people have really short memories, don't you? A bit over a year ago, HLP itself was upgraded from UBB, which uses CGI / Perl.

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

Isnt UBB the one u pay monthly for? I will not pay a monthly fee to run a board, bad enough u gotta pay a host and domain.
