Stupid FBI. They assumed that this guy on holiday was one of america's most wanted, and arrested him.  He was held for 3 weeks in a badly equiped south african jail for 3 weeks, before they found the real guy they were after.

What's really strange is that you look at pictures of the two men and they don`t even look that similar! Plus why on Earth couldn`t the guy find an alibi for the dates the frauds were commited? Surely he was in the UK at the time.

Stupid feckin' Yanks...

Why is is that the Americans can bugger things up that most other countries couldn't botch if they tried? Kinda sad, really. Don't even get me started on George Dubya...

Don't start on the trend a lot of people seem to be following these days 'a few americans did something wrong therefore all americans must be wrong'. I'm very tired of this remarkably monochrome viewpoint.

If the FBI was smart here they should have paid him hefty compensation in return for keeping his mouth shut about the incident. :p They are obviously going to mess up every now and then and so far this has been very rare, but that is fine as long as they are able to retain their public image, which can be best done by keeping such things quiet.

Actually, all the smart countries can do that. On this particular capability though, I think China is the best; the US should learn from them.

Maeglamor, I wholeheartedly agree!  Sorry if my comment seemed to give the impression I think like that.  I'm just getting increasingly pissed off with Bush and his big-business backers (or should that be manipulators) trying to screw anyone they can for short-term economic gains, and then destroying  them when they outlive their usefulness (Iraq is a prime example of this).  The vast majority of Americans are perfectly reasonable, civilised, intelligent people, and I have great respect for them. It's the leadership I can't stand!:ick

Anyway, hope that clears things up. I'd hate people to think of me as a xenophobe or anything like that.:)

Not aimed at you just a little caution, anything remotely related to any american affair usually ends up as a anti/pro war debate.

Quite agree.

Anyway, this is typical of the "guilty until proven innocent" sytem of "justice" that plagues our so-called "democracies".

Although it is usually a case of "guilty until proven wealthy".

Actually, this is equally as "just" as "innocent until proven guilty" so if the evidence for both parties is absolutely equal, just flip a coin, since it does not matter either way. :D
