Nodewars: Galactic Attack!
alright, I digged up my old descent campaign txt, and I'll make my, hemmm, "faction" out of it :p

"Faction" name: Mercs Inc.

Leader: Edward "Ed" Lewis
Second Leader: Noah'Toh

Fleet:

*for practical purpose all the ships have subspace drives

Flag ship: converted PTMC tanker ( gaz tanks have been replaced with hangars ), has a few turrets spread all over the hull. weapon power is below average, but the hull is very thick because of the original tanker design that carried highly volatile products

3 tugships ( can carry stuff, one is the Amon, has a GAUSS defense turret, the two others are undefended )

( stats are copy/paste from my doc )
-1 Pyro GX ( medium speed, great agility, huge weapon capacity, Warp drive , huge shield and hull, XYZ movement ability )

-2 Pyro GL ( Same as GX, but bigger )

-2 Pyro LX ( ak the Hellix-: High speed, 2 gunpoints, low secondary capacity )

-3 retrofited Angel scout fighters ( faster than the valk, but less agile, and with only 2 gunpoints )

-1 Magnum ( gunship: medium speed, medium agility, even bigger weapon capacity than the GX, biggest shield and hull of the fleet, XYZ mvt ability )

-2 phoenix ( lighter than the GX in both weapon and armor, but much faster )

- a few stolen PTMC Vulcan Man defense drones

-1 Hunter (VIP transport): 4 gun points, 22 missile points, 2 laser turrets, good survability for a transport

Primary weapons:
-AG435 Industrial Argon-Cyanide Laser: Medium fire rate, medium damage, medium energy drain, medium speed

-AG666 Illegaly modified Laser: 1.5 times more powerful than the AG435, 2 times the energy drain of the AG435

-Plasma Gun: two times the fire rate of the AG435, 1.5 times its speed, 2 times its energy drain

-Phoenix Gun: 1.5 times AG435 speed, 2 times its energy drain, bounce up to 5 times

secondaries:
-Vulcan Gun: High velocity ballistic gun, low shield damage, high rate of  fire

-GAUSS canon: 2 times more powerfull than the Vulcan, lower rate of fire

-Omega Cannon: Continous homing energy beam, very short range, very powerfull, energy leech

-Concussion Missile: Dumbfire, small payload

-Homing Missile: Fire and forget, small payload

-Smart Missile: fire and forget, medium payload, spawn 5 homing plasma shots

-Mega Missile: fire and forget, huge payload

-EarthShaker missile: classified stolen warhead

Yeah! back to Descent: freespace :D
SCREW CANON!

these are the specifics for the Dubbe military force, a semi-fleet of the GTVA:

1 Arcadia class station, Dubbe station. a standard arcadia class Installation, but with a bad state of maintenance

12 Myrmidon class fighters, none of them are in a good state of maintenance, and supplys of weapons are low

24 hercules mark 1 fighters, well maintained, these where litterly poulled out of the museum, and had to specially refitted to be able to arry weapons again.

1 GTC Fenris class cruiser, once again, behind on maintennance.

4 GTT Elysium class transports, only 2 of these vessels have marines ready to man them.

Good, now me and Kami and Mad Bomber don't have to set anything up.

I'll be the Laramis Confederation, consisting of Laramis and N362.

Oh and by the way, which nodemap specifically are we operating off of? IceFire's?

Okay, here's Laramis. I'm going into an OOB-esque format here.

Also note - the LC doesn't actually exist yet. They're still part of the GTVA right now. This is what they are, uh, later.
Need to talk to Shrike.

Name: Laramis Confederation
Race: 95% Human, 5% Vasudan
Head of State: Admiral Kenichi Fujimura
Government: True Democracy
Territory:
- Laramis: 5 planets, 1 gas giant, 9 moons, 2 asteroid belts, 1 large shipyard, 2 medium shipyards - pop. 2.3 billion
- N362: 2 planets, 2 gas giants, 34 moons, 1 asteroid belt, 3 medium shipyards - pop. 0.9 billion
Total Population: 3.2 billion
Economy: Good. Systems are resource-rich (although hard to exploit) and Laramis is an important center of trade between the core GTVA systems and the outer colonies.
Industry: Medium. Plenty of available resources; however, the factories to use them are few in number.
Agriculture: Average. Capable of sustaining population at a comfortable level.

History: 10 years after the Second Great War, with the GTVA's coffers nearly exhausted, the Security Council was looking for ways to regain the Alliance's monetary strength. It was decided to heavily tax the colony systems. Noticing that core systems were not being taxed, Laramis objected - strongly - to the point where the 12th Fleet was sent from Ross 128 to quell the uprising. After a few tense weeks of occupation, fighting broke out, led by former 10th fleet commander Kenichi Fujimura. To make a long story short, the freedom fighters eventually forced the 12th Fleet to retreat, and then declared their independence from the GTVA, along with N362 (which traditionally followed Laramis). Now, 6 years after the revolution, Fujimura has been elected as the leader of the nation's democratic government.

Laramis Confederation Navy:

1x LCD Freedom
3x LCCv Deimos
4x LCC Leviathan-X
3x LCC Fenris-X
120x LCF Hercules
90x LCF Loki
60x LCF Valkyrie-X
35x LCF Augeas
30x LCF Ragnarok
40x LCB Medusa
30x LCB Zeus
12x LCB Ursa

(Note the high proportion of fighters to capital ships. All fighters are modified to be aerospace capable, useful during the revolution - GTVA ships couldn't hit back after being raided by ground-based LC fighters. Capital ships, on the other hand, were large targets and most were destroyed.)

Ship types:

LCD Freedom: Only one of these ships is in existence. Originally the GTD Awesome of the 12th fleet, this ship was nearly destroyed by the LC near the end of the revolution. Over the past 6 years, the hulk has been salvaged, refurbished, and entirely rebuilt with the addition of another hangar bay, weaponry and systems salvaged from other capital ships, a custom-built Vasudan reactor, and an extra 150 millimeters of armor plating. (Note: The second hangar bay is mostly empty. Complement is similar to a standard Orion at this time.)

LCCv Deimos: Same as original.

LCC Leviathan-X: Another product of the post-revolution weapons modernisation project, the 4 Leviathans that survived have only recently emerged from the shipyards orbiting Laramis IV. Long range missile launchers have been mounted on the forward and rear superstructures, redefining the Leviathan's tactical role. Able to bombard enemy capital ships far beyond the range of some beam weapons, they cannot protect themselves adequately from close range. They are usually paired with a Fenris-X.

LCC Fenris-X: Again, a modified chassis. The Fenris' turrets have been upgraded with new, high-velocity lasers and powerful long range flak guns. Speed has been increased to 35m/s, making this a deadly threat to fighters and bombers. However, the light slash beam cannon has not been changed, meaning that this ship is helpless against anything larger than itself.

LCF Hercules: Aerospace capable.

LCF Loki: Aerospace capable.

LCF Valkyrie-X: The original Valkyrie, with an extra missile rack on top and a modified shielding system. Laramis does not have access to the newer Perseus fighters.

LCF Augeas: This fighter did not arrive in time to participate in the revolution, but it is a valuable addition to the navy nonetheless. Based on the bare chassis of the ancient Apollo fighter, LC engineers completely redesigned it from the ground up with available parts manufactured in the Confederation. The result is a slow, yet maneuverable missile-attack fighter. Not very effective in a dogfight, the Augeas excels at destroying enemy bombers or fighters from long range. Overall, though, it's not very effective, and further modifications are being considered.

LCF Ragnarok: During the revolution, wrecked and knocked out fighters were sent to N362 to be repaired. Craftsmen noticed the abundance of Loki parts available and began modifying a few for greater firepower. Eventually, they earned an entirely new designation - the LCF Ragnarok. Heavily armed and armored, with almost the same speed and maneuverability as its predecessor, the Ragnarok is an excellent stopgap space superiority fighter. Original Lokis are steadily being converted to Ragnaroks as parts become available.

LCB Medusa: Aerospace capable.

LCB Zeus: Aerospace capable.

LCB Ursa: Same as original. All based on board the Freedom.

Can we use the Warzone/Derelict map?

Noctis Organization

Leader: known only as Nyx
Territory:  primary base in Beta Cygni, presence in Betelgeuse, Epsilon Pegasi, Adhara, Procyon A, Laramis, Wolf 359, Luyten
Members: estimated 42,000

Formed in 2375 in the Beta Cygni system in a merging of 5 trader organizations. With the militarization of GTVA space the organization has had to resort to less legitimate methods to earn cash. By 2385 they now own numerous illegal smuggling, mining, and even pirating operations in Epsilon Pegasi, Beta Cygni, Betelgeuse, or anywhere else that the GTVA's omni-present military can not control effectively.

Fleet:
4 Aeolus-class cruisers
8 Mycenae-class freighters (replacement to the Triton, a little bit faster, and has 5 flak guns)
14 Triton freighters modified to carry 3 fighter wings
26 Satis freighters/gunboats
12 Triton class freighters
52 Posiedon-class freighters
And about 1500 fighters

Note (almost vebatim from the HLP Nodewar Forum) about Nodewars.

Nodewar: Galactic Attack - The casual Nodewar game, free form and mainly a story debate set in a semi-Freespace setting. Played here at HLP.

Nodewar 4 - The latest game in the Nodewar series is Nodewar 4, however it discontinues the highly rule-centered settings of Nodewars 2 and 3 for a classical, less ruled setting. This is slightly more complex than Nodewar: Galactic Attack. (less casual)

It's possible that Nodewar 4 will be less-Freespace based than NW:GA, or totally non-FS.

Nodewars: Galactic Attack!
My Faction

(actually because I'm working the idea for a mini campaign, so all the ships are planned)

Black Watch
Leader; Unknown.  Believed to be a pseudo-Politburo.
Species; Terran
Territory;  Mobile, the systems surrounding Capella - principally Vega
Members; Unknown, estimated between 25,000 to 45,000

The so-called Black Watch was founded by Capellan refugees based on-board several GTVA 'relocation' stations.  The Black Watch is the offshoot of several Capellan political parties, and seeks a new planet to be allocated to the refugees.  With the Charon project forcing the GTVA to abandon the refugees, the Black Watch has grown from strength to strength.

The Black Watch does, however, have a dark core.  It's principal command craft, the Warlock, is a relic from the war of 20 years ago.  Sent into Gamma Draconis, the Warlock never returned, and was presumed lost with all hands.  Up until 3 years ago, that appeared to have been a correct assumption.

The Warlock now forms the iron fist of the Black Watch.  The motives of the surviving crew, and their reasons for joining the Watch, are unknown.  So far, they have remained hidden, unwilling to actively strike out, yet building their strength.

Despite a relatively strong fleet, the Black Watches core strength remains a large core of 'sleeper' agents - former Capellan refugees working in various GTVA government and civillian agencies.  The exact purpose of these agents is unknown, but finding them and eliminating them looks set to be the next 'shadow' war for the GTVA.

Fleet

1* BWSD Warlock
Armament; Unknown, estimated 6 beam turrets, 10+ flak
Size; 3-4km range
Crew; 8,000 - 10,000 (inc 2000 marines)
Although 20 years old, the Warlock is still capable of stading toe-to-toe with any GTVA destroyer. The head of the Black Watch fleet, it provides the crucial control and command functions for the fledgling alliance

8* BWCv Sceptre (8 confirmed, possibly 8 more in development)
Armament; 4 beam turrets, 10 laser turrets, 6 flak guns, 2 AAAf
Size; 0.75km
Crew; 3,500
The Sceptre has been manufactured largely in secret in various Black Watch bases.  Before the arrival of the Warlock, the Sceptre provided a vital fighter carrying capability for the Watch, but at a severe disadvantage in armour.  Since the Warlock arrived, these vessels have been massively upgraded, and pose a very real threat to similar sized ships and older destroyers

Numbers of fighters /bombers are uncofirmed, believed to total in the 300-500 range

BWB Achilles
Speed; Average
Maneuverability; Average/Poor
Armour/Shielding; Heavy
Weapons; Good
Less a bomber, more a gunship, the Achilles is a heavy fighter capable of carrying even the heaviest ordenance.  Developed 20 years ago as an elite 'superfighter', the Achilles is still one of the most potent fighters available

BWF Claymore
Speed; Good
Maneuverability; Good
Armour/Shielding; Light
Weapons; Average
The Claymore is the interceptor 'cousin' of the Achilles, with excellent speed and agility.  It is belived that this fighter was developed fairly recently, as it was not stationed on the Warlock when it vanished 20 years ago

BWF Scimitar
Speed; Average
Maneuverability; Average
Armour/Shielding; Medium / Light
Weapons; Average
Before the Warlock arrived, the Scimitar was the Black Watches only fighter.  A fairly weak fighter in the early days of the Watch, the Warlocks techs have already refitted a large number to a military-equivalent standard.  The Scimitars principle advantage is its ability to fit into the fighterbays of the Sbare corvette, allowing the Black Watch to obtain a wide ranging fighter coverage for even small operations

(Achilles, Claymore only stationed on Warlock)

Weapons

Capship

Quantum singularity device
A weapon of unknown origin, the QSD is somewhat akin to a flak gun - firing minature subspace 'holes' (similar to a black hole) capable of causing immense damage at close proximity, but slow and difficult to aim

Pulse laser
The bulk of BW weaponry is the humble laser, turbocharged to move at high velocity.  The pulse laser fires standard GTVA fighter lasers (a Subach HL-9 variant), but at a rate akin to a WW2 'tracer' gun

Shockwave defense
The Warlock is equipped with several turrets armed with 'Shockwave' weaponry.  Primarily defensive, these warheads generate a massive shockwave capable of throwing any ship smaller than cruiser off balance, whilst paralysing them with and EMP surge. Their effectioveness against EMP protected / AWACs equipped capital ships is debatable, though

Fighter

Aggressor gun
The Agressor is an old-style machine gun, firing high velocity DU rounds.  Highly effective against armour defenses, but with limited ammunition, the Aggressor needs to be complemented with a shield piercing weapon for maximum effect.

Railgun
Supercharged laser, firing a 'burst' of superheated energy.  Slow to refire and inaccurate, but extremely powerful. The heat emissions make these unsafe for use within capital ships, due to the difficulties of dissapating the resulting heat away from the hull.  They are, however, suitable for fighters if mounted in areas exposed to vacuum.

I'll take my own mods for a spin.  I'm going out on a limb here, it involves some pre-Great War non-canon elements but it has potential (especially given the rapid consumption of available systems on the canon nodemap)

Faction: Alliance of Terran Free Worlds (Free World Alliance) [FWA]
Governing Body:  Terran Free World Assembly (965 members)
Leader: President C.E. Kerr
Supreme military commander: Eric "StratComm" Davis
my alter ego for military purposes

Core Systems:
Tau Ceti
Epsilon Eridani
Keid
Sigma Draconis
Solaris (CHI Draconis)

Adjacent populated systems: 8 (all members of alliance)
Known routes to GTVA space: 0

Background:
"...it is the key to the future of our species.  Through subspace, mankind can now travel distances unheard of in previous lifetimes in the blink of an eye.  Humanity now stands on the brink of its destiny among the stars.  The possibilities for the future are endless.  Godspeed to the 300 million colonists who set out today to establish humanity's first foothold outside of the solar system: Sigma Draconis."  ~Professor J. Whiteside, at the embarkment ceremony for the GTA Eden, March 21, 2314*

"Today marks a tragedy the likes of which human kind has never had to face.  At 0200 hours galactic standard time today, only minutes after the Eden entered hyperspace, sensors monitoring the Sigma Draconis jump node began to detect increasing instability in the regional subspace field.  Within an hour these sensors confirmed a complete collapse of the node.  All contact with the Eden has been severed, and it would appear that the colonization ship never made it out of subspace in Sigma Draconis.  All attempts to restore contact have failed, and preliminary data from the node indicates that no craft could have survived a subspace corridor collapse.  The Eden, along with all hands abord, is presumed lost.  Let us pause now to honor the memory of her courageous crew, and may god have mercy on the souls of the 300 million men, women and children aboard."  ~President Crowell to the citizens of the Galactic Terran Alliance, March 23, 2314*

can we bump that date back a couple of decades (50 years) so that there is some justification for having so many colonists off of Sol?

While Humanity mourned, and official record of the Eden colonization project was consigned to history, the first and only terran super-colonizer did safely emerge in Sigma Draconis.  With the only avenue to Sol severed in one blinding flash, the would-be colonizers found themselves cut off with no hope of ever returning to their home.  The Eden disembarked on Sigma Draconis II, where an immediate investigation was conducted into the collapse of the subspace node to Sol.  It was concluded that one of the Eden's slow-charging subspace drives went out just after entry, and the remaining drives were not powerful enough to sustain the ship's subspace field within a node.  Though the ship managed to clear the node successfully, the strain it had put on subspace in its passage caused the immediate collapse of the corridor.  Without this knowledge, Earth could not explain the disaster, and it became widely accepted that the colonists were all killed when the node underwent spontaneous, natural collapse.

By the end of the incident in Capella, the long-forgotten colony in Sigma Draconis has done some rapid expanding of its own.  Growth rates have skyrocketed, spurned by an abundance of resources and the necessity of cloning, and the population of the Sigma Draconis system alone is currently approaching 2 billion.  The surrounding systems have been fully colonized, and a strong military presence established under the flag of the Terran Free Worlds.  Several Ancient sites have been located throughout the Free World Alliance, and FWA researchers are within a few years of independent development of subspace stabilization technology.  They have also developed space-faring warship technology comparable to the GTVA (shields developed independently) and have been expanding their military capabilities since picking up Great-War era radio chatter from Sol.  The FWA would be a powerful contender in galactic politics if any connections to GTVA space allowed their direct contact.  Further investigation of the surrounding systems found an indefinite network of subspace nodes, but thus far none has produced a conduit to terran-influended space.  And with knowledge of the Great War and the Shivan threat, the FWA is not eager to push into unknown space to restore its link to Earth.

Ships and Stations:
FWI New Babylon
Size: 6km x 6km x 6km
Armament: 6 anti-fighter beams, 12 laser cannons
Fighterbay: 64 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 150+
A massive installation in orbit around many FWA core worlds.  The New Babylon installations not military installations, though they do contain a fighterbay.  Rather, these stations are home to over a million people each, and are hubs of commerce and orbital manufacturing unparalleled by similar facilities of the GTVA.
(my big civ station goes here.  Still trying to get in-games of that thing)

FWI Sparta
Size: 3km x 3km x 2km
Armament: 6 heavy beam cannons, 12 anti-fighter cannons, 12 flak guns, 24 laser turrets
Fighterbay: 72 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 200+
The FWA equivilent to the GTI Arcadia (with similar functions to the Ganymede), the Sparta is a military command base.  Well defended by 6 heavy anti-capital beams and numerous anti-fighter beams, the Sparta also boasts a large hanger and docking and servicing facilities for up to six capital ships.
model exists, but it's classified

FWDn Archangel
Size: 6km
Armament:
One spine-mounted extremely-heavy-beam turret (SuperBlue, you get the picture)
2 Long Range Beams
12 Heavy Anti-cap-ship beams
12 flak guns
36 anti-fighter beams
40 laser cannons
Fighterbay: 144 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 500+
Ships in class:
FWDn Archangel
FWDn Saratoga
Yeah, my mods start showing up here ;7
The Archangel class, a juggernaught by GTVA standards, is the single most powerful vessel in the FWA fleet.  The Saratoga is the command ship of the 1st Fleet in Sigma Draconis, and the Archangel is the supreme commander's personal command.  Their beam cannons represent the latest in FWA technology, and can effectively destroy any known space-faring object in a matter of minutes.  Though untested on ships of war, the Archangel's main cannon has vaporized a 1,000,000,000,000m^3 asteroid in a single shot.  However, due to the power consumption of this main cannon, the Archangel is the only class of ship large enough to mount this technology.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/archangel_download.html

FWD Raynor
Size: 3km
Armament:
2 Long Range Beams
10 Heavy Anti-cap-ship beams
12 flak guns
12 anti-fighter beams
20 laser cannons
6 medium-long range anti-capital torpedo launchers
Fighterbay: 72 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 200+
Ships in class:
FWD Raynor
FWD Hope
FWD Legacy
FWD Endurance
FWD Majestic
FWD Avalon - Commodore Greshan
FWD Justice
FWD Leviathan
FWD Integrity
FWD Tempest
FWD Formidable
FWD Providence
The second-largest craft currently fielded by the FWA, the Raynor packs as formidable a punch in its size as any Terran destroyer.  All six FWA fleets contain two of these mighty destroyers, manned by the finest crews in the FWA fleets.  They also serve as capable fighter bases, though the primary strength of the Raynor is its heavy strike capabilities.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/raynorview.html

FWCa Phoenix
Size: 2km
Armament:
4 Medium Anti-capship beams
6 flak guns
12 anti-fighter beams
6 laser cannons
Fighterbay: 288 fighters/bombers standard, capable of maintaining 500+
Ships in class:
FWCa Phoenix
FWCa Trident
FWCa Frontier
FWCa Renown
FWCa Dominance
FWCa Andromeda
FWCa Wolverine
FWCa Relentless
FWCa Eagle
FWCa Hornet
FWCa Titan
FWCa Cobra
Poorly armed for its size, the FWA's carrier class is nevertheless a powerful craft when properly manned.  Its hanger bays, dominating on its profile, house more fighters than even the Archangel class.  These combat craft can be launched on a moments notice, to respond to calls anywhere in the system or to defend the carrier in the event of attack.  This ship plays an exclusively supporting role in fleet operations, but can adequately defend itself if attacked.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/strikecarrier.html

FWCv Chimera
Size: 1.1km
Armament:
3 spine-mounted medium beam turrets
2 medium beam turrets
8 flak guns
18 anti-fighter beams
16 laser cannons
Ships in class: 36
Armed with state-of-the-art beam cannons running the length of the ship, the Chimera is another example of advanced TWA technology.  It is a more-than-capable corvette, similar to the Deimos in function.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/new_corvette_ingame.html

FWCv Ajax
Size: 800m
Armament:
3 heavy, extreme-range missile launchers, all forward facing
5 Medium-long range anti-capship torpedo launchers
6 anti-fighter beams
10 laser cannons
Ships in class: 24
An unusual craft by modern Terran standards, the Ajax is a fire support craft of immense potential.  Capable of launching high-yield, high-velocity missiles at targets from extreme range, the Ajax can devastate unsuspecting enemy battlegroups.  However, if engaged directly, the Ajax is extremely vulnerable, as it has little fighter cover and only limited missile capabilities against ships not directly in front of it.
http://www.geocities.com/cek_83/missilecorvette.txt

FWC Hyperion
Size: 500m
Armament:
2 spine-mounted medium-light (heavy for cruiser standards) beam turrets
6 flak guns
10 anti-fighter beams
Ships in class: 72
The smallest FWA ship, the Hyperion is a standard cruiser, overloaded with anti-fighter weapons.  It also has two forward-facing cannons, deriving their power directly from the ship's engines and thus capable of higher-than-usual power ratings.  Extremely effective anti-fighter ship, though of limited effectiveness against larger craft.

Fear the 1500 word post!  I can't believe it took all of that.  Anyway, fighters can be assumed to be comparable to those of the GTVA, I'll try to get a list up sometime.

Also, this isolation thing keeps me out of things for now.  (Technically you all think I don't exist, but we aren't going there), and we could use an updated nodemap though it isn't necessary.  The only connection to the existing map is a now-defunct node to Sol.  Great thing is, I've done some star-map (real) checking, and it looks like I could link in to Sol, Bernard's Star, Ross 128, Vega, and Altair when technology allows me to come in.  I may find a Knossos device in my territory or something when things get interesting.

It's not much of an excuse for a website, but my stuff can be found here

i've got a question on Styxx post in the story thread, he mentions an Sol-Beta Aquilae node, however, there is no such node, right?
you've got Sol-Delta Serpentis, wich is dead (duh) and Delta Serpentis-Beta Aquilae, and form Beta Aquilae to Vega and to Antares, but i'm still missing Sol-Beta Aquilae here. so Styxx, where did that node come from?
