I've heard too many people say "PSP is da bomb" or "PSP sux! Photoshop pwnz PSP!".

Now give your arguments here. I'd really like to know the pros and cons of both programs to compare them.

Photoshop has many more features, and is much more powerful. It costs 10 times as much, so it must be better.

I like them both. :)
Photoshop makes great effects and paint shop isn't that bad. I preffer the noise usage in Paint Shop, rather than in photoshop. Photoshop, though is great for making beams, glows and all that crap.

photoshop kicks ass cos it uses scratch disks. psp doesnt so if u r working on a big file it is hell. Imagine the spec pc that the nodewar map would require without scratch disks! Infact i produced it all on a system with just 256 mb of ram.

Hmmm...Though PS has lots of more features, all those glows, lens flares and other **** can be done with Max. Of course for those who don't have rendering progs should have PS.

And PSP is easy to use. To complete my renders, I just have to make some clicks but with PS, I have to navigate through dozens of features, use many different effects to get the one that I want.

Though PS is actually better and more professional, I'd say that it depends what you want to do with it.

I don't use either!

At the moment, I use MicroGrafx Windows Draw 6 and PhotoMagic.

They're really old (about 5 or 6 years I think), but they're easy to use, and they've got a good range of features, so I'm happy!

I need to upgrade though, so I'm looking at PSP or PS, but they look kind of expensive.

AHA!

Just looked through a pile of old PCGamer demo discs, and found a trial of PSP 7 on there. I'll try it out later and see what I come up with...

PSP

Cheaper
Easier to learn
Easier to use
Fewer features
Less powerful

Photoshop

More powerful with more features
more expensive
harder to learn/use

So yeah, depends on what you want it for, how much time you're willing to spend learning it, and how much money you're willing to spend acquiring it.

Note that many of Photoshop's features can be emulated in PSP with plugins (ranging in price from free to more than the program itself), and all PS plugins work in PSP.

I use PSP 7, but mainly because I was able to acquire a copy for free. Given the choice, I'd probably swap between both, using PSP for most of the simple stuff (due to it's preferably simple interface) and using PS for the more complex.

I prefer PSP simply because i discovered one day i had it, and never thought to use anything else.
I might try photoshop one day, price issue is putting me off though.

I dunno, both have their good and bad sides.  Although I'm more partial to Photoshop since I've used it for a lot longer, and PSP's Layer system is kinda screwy...

Photoshop is much better... but since it's also much more expensive than Paint Shop, many people have Paint shop as opposed to Photoshop, so therefore they think Paint Shop is better, cause they've never used Photoshop much.

price --> features ratio, paint shop would win hands down

i like PSP, since of the easy interface, i've got a semi-legal copy of PS on my PC, but i haven't used it much. PSP can do a lot, and it's easy to get used to.

Good, the thread worked. I got the opinions I needed.

I think you can't say either one is "bad". They're both good. I prefer PSP if I need a quick fix or some axion glow for something. Or something simple as neon signs. But Photoshop is more complex and has more uses for the more advanced image editing.

I use both pretty often ;)
