New 'Starfighter' demo finished... mostly.
The new starfighter demo is done and is available at my website.  It only lacts most of the voice acting, which will likely be done in abouut 2 weeks.  It'll be uploaded as soon as it is finished.

If only I had some decent mapping software I could do the bigger stuff easier...

what do you use? paint? or when you said mapping did you mean actually mapping it on the hulls?

I use a combination of MS Paint and Paint Shop Pro to generate the *.PCX files, that's not the problem.

The problem is the way TS applies UV projection onto the model's surface.  The only decent projection I've got is planar projection, it works ok for fighters but I'm squeemish about trying it on the big ships because the distortions and flaws that result from using it would show up EXTREMELY well.

I do have UVMapper, but without 3DExplorer (my evaluation copy ran out months ago, and I have no $$$ to register it with) it does me no good.

Thanks LAW, that means a lot to me.

Heres a few hints that might help...

#1  USE THE 'C' KEY.  You are cast in the role of a fledgling squadron commander when hostilities first break out.  Most of the missions are nearly impossible without commanding the other ships with you.

#2  FIGURE OUT WHERE THEY ARE THE WEAKEST FROM.  Another thing that this game really emphisizes is positioning.  Don't push an attack against a capital ship from a bad position, you'll generally lose.  Try to escape the situation and come back from a diferent approach.  Don't hesitate to use the 'c' menues to order your bombers into formation with you so you can lead them directly where you want them to attack from.  It works for me.

#3 MAINTAIN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS.  Keep looking around.  Check your radar for bright red dots.  Hit the 'R' key every once in a while to see if someone is trying to bounce you.  The fastest and surest way to get yourself killed is to be hit unawares.

The problem is one missile can waste you so you doge that (and about 5 others) leaving you ripe for attack.
Your guns run out too quickly and I keep killing my self with torpedos (I shoot to soon and they get shot).
But it has a cool feeling of technological inferority (what? how can that feel 'cool'?).
Some of your textures are a bit plain - would recomend using layers in PSP or something to keep texture but add more detail.

Type-37? Type-38? are you gonning to name them?

LMFAO!!!

Sorry, not at you, but... if you have problems managing your weapons now, imagine what it was like when I first created the MOD.  ALL of the weapons were modeled as secondaries, you had less than half as much ammunition, and missiles would still kill you in one hit (ok, some things haven't changed  )

Seriously, I was worried that it was too easy (because of the slow-turning ships and the accuracy of the weapons).  Glad to hear that it's as challenging as FS was (just for different reasons  )

I felt that the game (more or less) HAD to be modeled as it was.  I was afraid that if it wasn't it would be just like playing FS, with different looking ships.  The lethality and the "old skool tech" is what sets it apart from everyone else's stuff I guess...
