Galaxy class almost ready for upload
I should have it up by Tuesday. Just need to do some tweaking for the TBLs. And here's a question for everyone: Do you think it's strength should be closer to the Deimos (because their around the same size) or the Orion (because it's the Federation flagship)?

Much lower, because Feddies use low to medium megaton photorps, instead of low gigaton bombs like in FS.

Seriously, go for Deimos.
WE ARE HARD LIGHT PRODUCTIONS. YOU WILL LOWER YOUR FIREWALLS AND SURRENDER YOUR KEYBOARDS. WE WILL ADD YOUR INTELLECTUAL AND VERNACULAR DISTINCTIVENESS TO OUR OWN. YOUR FORUMS WILL ADAPT TO SERVICE US. RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.

just wondering because in my Moloch vs. Galaxy test teh Galaxy had it's ***  whipped, with quite a bit of the damage coming from flak after teh shields were worn away. I'll probably increase the maneuverabilaty though.

Too bad beams go through shields- they're really the federation's main defense. Hulls don't last too long alone.

Is it possible to make a subsystem that is tough to kill, but won't cause much hull damage as it is destroyed? If so, you could just make the sheild mesh a subsystem that can be destroyed, and give it recharge through SEXPS...

Well thats not entirly true, during the dominon war (which was the best bit of star trek seeing the feds getting there **** whip) the came up ablative(sp) armor which i guess acts like the armor on the ships of freespace agianst beams, anyway during the dominion war you never saw any sheild effects on any ship i mean would would see a cardassian galor fire is phasers at a galaxy and it would take a chunk out the ship and all you would here is "sheilds down to 20%" even though the beam passed through

But this was probably so they could show great battles where you see bit being blown of starships and destroyed hulks. Unlike TNG where all the ships tended to explode in one large explosion and leave no wreakage.

Getting back to FS, if you have problems with the beams going through the shield, you could always make the beams like the main Lucifer weapon in FS1. Okay it would not look as good as beams would, buit it does get around the problem.

I got the impression that the lower the percentage of a Star Trek ships shields the greater the percentage of the power from a shot penetrated to the hull.
I'm sure in TNG the enterprise takes hull damage while the shields are still holding.

I think during the Dominion War, the Federation had to rethink some stragies dealing with shields.  Dominion weapons were pretty good at breaking through Fed shield systems.  Mostly because Fed, Klingon, and Romulan shields weren't so thick as they were adaptive.  Firing at a single point on a shield would prove ineffectual (because it would adapt the polarity of the shield to counterbalance the energy being thrown at it) unless you had alot of power or the shield was really weak.

Your definately right that shields were almost non-existant in some of the scenes which was strange.  Still they are the primary line of defense for Fed ships.

Undissapated kinetic energy damage from the impact maybe?

Or repetitive strain injuries from diving about so much when the ship shakes?

I'd go fo the same points as a Deimos, 75-80k.
If it were a soverign I'd give it the same as a typhon (125k).

There was some technobabble about the jehm-hedar weapons that they were out of phase somewhat so that they ignored the shields but could blast through to hull (which was denser molecularly than the shields).

They may use megaton torpedoes, but as long as the hit isn't in a critical area of the ship it'll live.

And the galaxy class was the flagship of the fleet in TNG but the class didn't have the weapons or armor that pure combat ships did.

Two torp launchers and four phaser arrays?  The ship was a diplomatic vessel meant for exploration and being a general workhorse for dignataries.

However, the Sovereign Class is a flat-out warship.  The dominion and borg have pushed the federation to change their stances as to who should be the flagship.
The galaxy class still has it's uses, but not as flagship anymore.

You can always make that cool looking Galaxy seen in the last episode of TNG with all it's gun ports and armor, though it may seem a bit out of date
