The executioner you are referring to must not be the medieval axe-wielders I thought you were referring to... Right?

Okay, how about this - you have a dream job testing computer games and pies, in a penthouse office with a 19 year-old blonde secretary. But it's a two hour drive to work, meaning you have to get up at six in the morning and sit in a traffic jam. You don't like it, you don't sing about it, but you sure as hell do whay you gotta do to keep that job.

K, it's not the same as blowing a guy out of the sky, but the priciple's the same. Just scale it up.

Scaling it up would involve many more secretaries... I'm not sure if that would be so healthy...

It's an old joke on the whole "I'm only doing my job" thing, part of it runs "Well, I don't necessarily support the death penalty, but a living is a living, right?"

DG: Wrong. That's a side issue, not the job itself.

Okay, you're an animal rights activist. You get a job with decent pay and good perks at a slaughterhouse. THAT'S a working analogy. The "killing people" bit isn't an unfortunate side disadvantage, it's the job itself.

I'm gonna go up there, and either I get shot down or I shoot the other guy down. When I make it back, we'll see whether or not I'm in a fit state to carry on going up there. I don't think, Stryke, that you can predict how I'll react to what happens, and more than I can.

Sure. You just keep not thinking about the whole deal, you'll probably do fine. Be very nearly the perfect soldier.

We're back to where we started - to say a soldier has no feelings about zapping the other lot is, I feel, unfair. But I also know the soldier is planning on walking away from the fight, at the expense of his enemies' lives. Yes, it's him or me and I'll fight tooth and nail to be the one who flies home alive, but don't tell me I don't feel sorry for the poor bastard I just splashed.

The best thing in this situation on the internet is to claim to be like 60 or something and then tell everyone else to shut up because of their ages. :D

You are actually probably right here, but even if this "accusation" was true, what in the world is the big deal? It is just a job like any other. :p

Accusation? Hey, I'm defending my choice of carreer here, I'm not doing any accusing. Go accuse Stryke of accusing people.

Ow, my head

yeah, I am talking about the other's accusation, but what I am saying is that no defending is necessary in the first place. :D

Some people are just defensive. When you get reflexive protectiveness like that, it's generally a sign that they subconsciously don't really buy it either, and are trying to convince themselves much as anyone else.

If one of your top three reasons in getting a profession is "because chicks dig it", then DG, as awkward as it may sound coming from me, I feel really, really sorry for you.

If you're a good enough man, you'll get a respectable job (I'm sorry, I can deal with generals, and very high-ranking officers, whose job is to defend their country, who love to do that, and do that well, but guys who get paid for killing other people, and do it because "chicks dig the uniform", well, yeah:doubt: ), that others respect you and way more importantly, that you yourself respect (and I mean the, damn I'm making a difference respect, not the "chicks dig the uniform respect"), and brings in money enough to get a private jet.

[edit] counting out reason 1 (reason 3 is a damn stupid reason, I'm not going to explain this in detail, as Stryke and Odyssey has done that before), you can get a job that "chicks dig" by becoming an illegal car smuggler. Trust me, half of Estonia does that.

Slick. The way you didn't actually mention my name really cut deep.

Peanuts - why is officering a stupid goal? Do you not think someone who has proven themselves the very best their country has to offer has achieved something to be proud of? Now, no doubt Stryke will laugh at the last sentance but it's true - do you know how many fighter pilots the navy has vs the working population of this country? It's a very very small fraction, and you don't get in it by being anything other than extraordinairy. And do me a favour - review what I've been saying to Stryke about the killing. I'll say it again, I am NOT signing up in the hope that I'll get to cap a few guys with tea-towels on their heads as quickly as possible. By God, is it really so hard to understand? I know that if I make fast jet pilot, then I'll have done my very best and more, and I'll be proud of myself and ****ing rightly so

well, you kinda repeatedly mentioned, that you weren't doing it for patriotism, and you neither liked nor queen nor god etc. etc.

and I like my name spelt the right way round.

Right, and I also mentioned that I WAS doing it mainly cos of the fast jets. And yet you're still asking why I want to sign up to do some huntin' an' killin'.

Amd I mean, the civil pilot's liscence thing? Getting an exec's job and buying your own jet? **** that, I'll take a pilot's wage and a Harrier, thankyouverymuch

This thread reeks of gay.

DG wants to fly fighters. Great. I would too. So he has the possibility of killing things. Yey. That's what fighter pilots do. It's war, and it's survival. It's what you do. They other guy knows that to. He wants to kill you though. It's like any other competitive atmosphere, just the stakes are a lot higher.

Oddesys or whatever.. :wtf:
