Well Duh ;)

I mean, how do you go about it? Do you do it in a 3way view, in the 3D Perspective view, how do you create the objects? With primitives or another way?

Or even better, make a tutorial ;) j/k :)

Cheers

for the view, depends, I keep switching between them.
I started the shivan from a box.

I'm no expert on in game mechanics, but what about making the shivans top two arms into turrets with firepoints but no assigned weapons? Wouldn't that make them track targets? It might be a little primitive, but they'd move... to a point.

well, you'd actually need a dummy weapon with no animations and no damage for firing points to be at all useful if memory serves.  Plus there are logistical issues with "moving" the arms, and I'm sure venom has better things to do than that.
who needs a signature? ;)

Do you edit it with boolean operations? Or just deform it untill it looks like what you want?

Cheers,

no, I don't often use boolean unless it really makes things simpler. I extrude, bevel, weld vertices, turn edges, cut polys, etc etc.
I already thought about that turret thing for the arms, but there's a couple issues:
1) the basic position of a turret, tsupidly enough, is "pointing up". so if I let the arms in that position, when it targets something, the arms will go down ( depressed shivan :p ). if I place the arms up at the begining, the shivan will look stupid ( cheerful shivan :p )
2) they will rotate in every direction, imagine if the ship the shivan targets goes behing it ( broken shivan ).

btw, for that "weaponless turret" thinguy, a thing i've done quite some time ago, and that I  should share with you ( doesn't have much link with what's said above, but the idea is the same ):
it was for my Descent campaign, I wanted the lifter ( you know, the green bot with claws ) to scream, like in descent. how to make that? with an engine sound, it would just loop stupidly.
so I gave the thing a weapon that does not damage, no visual effects, nothing, and gave the lifter scream sound as the weapon launching sound. it worked great :)

790 polys, 1 1024*1024 map. I still have lot of room on the map, probably add more elements for a dead shivan, etc, all using the same map.

Galactic Emperor, you can add that to your list, mesh and map by venom, conversion by woomeister ( I'm sure he will :D ), for ott.
don't worry, once it's converted, i'll put it available right away anyway, but it'll find a place in ott w/o a doubt :)

Wow, this is awesome!  How soon can we expect to download a POF? :)

You know, added some additional polys this would make an exceptional FPS enemy.

Wasn't there an attempt (or two) to make a freespace FPS?

Wow - just got back from a weekend camping/hiking trip up north. Pooped as all heck - darn hurricane winds the first night and mosquitoes the second. :p

Ahh, yes, the Fenris. As I see things, I have a more set schedule nowadays, with an actual job I got out of the house for. This means that my time at home is just that - mine. :D I have a number of HLP/FS related projects that I'd like to complete, and the current one is the reworking of the GVCa Amaunet. After (or during) that, probably a little something with Darkage, followed by finishing that asteroid base. Then perhaps reviving the FS -> Serious Sam project both here and on the Seriously forums, which would have the Fenris deck layout as part of the project. :D
