This is a poll for my game but also in general.

(These options are all with average use of swearing and nudity, not excessive usage)

Personally I don't mind swearing and nudity at all. If used right it can enhance the game.

Also a reason I'm asking this is cause I want to know if i should make 2 versions of my RPG. One clean and one with the swearing and nudity. (Please add comments on this to your post as well)

Honest answer? Eh. You shouldn't be going out of your way to create either extreme. You've got a character who needs to say ****, let 'im say ****- creative swearing from interesting characters can make a really good side... thing for any story, game, whatever. They need to be naked in the context of what's going on, well, why not? This isn't a mass market affair, you won't have little old ladies in tennis shoes screaming for your blood and you won't have 50,000 cellar-bound dweebs playing the one-string fiddle over derivative porn of your characters. Hopefully.

well it depends on the context: take Kingpin for example "****" was practically every second word uttered and thus spoiled the overall feel (and impact) of the game.. same goes for nudity, overuse and the game loses it's impact...

I like stufd to be how it should be. I can't imagine a teenager, dunno, falling and saying "how, god forbid, I fell and hurt the leg"
, but " ****, that hurts!". Also if you look at a g... character taking a shower, there's no mosaic appearing by magic in front of the strategic areas ( thanks Pete ).

mmh? kingpin was cool. I dunno how it is in the States or any other country, but in France, in the downtowns and suburbs, you couldn't believe how much sweearing they can place in one single short sentence. I could bet it's the same everywhere else anyway. Considering the environement, Kingpin was accurate, at worst.
Nudity, well, pb don't occur usually, games with nudity are rated 18+ usually, coz it's all pr0n or all nothing.

It depends. If you can catch the street slang properly, sometimes the cursing every other word thing works (I've only seen it done for emphasis or when someone's pissed, but maybe we have mild-mannered crackheads out here). Unfortunately, large corporations and computer geeks generally can't simulate street slang to any good degree. Which is a good thing, 'cos that's part of the point.

lol, btw, read Trainspotting ( it was damn hard, it's scottish, they don't uuse the same words than english people ), that's close enough to how it really is ( well, that's exactly how it is, in fact ). tho scotish people lack imagination, they have only three swearing words, it seems

Nudity should only be used on lead female characters to emphasis beauty. And even then, her hair should be strategically whispy.


Scottish swear-words: ****, ****, Bastard.


And comedy is always more preferable to out-right swearing.

Ie: Instead of "ARGH! My ****ing leg!" have a little "Ow!" appear and then every few seconds have the character fall flat on his face. Or say something like "Hmm. I'm no doctor, but being able to see the bone can't be a good thing."

in games, either you have porn, either you have nothing. I haven't seen any normal game with topless or nudity. hell, even n duke3d, they managed to avoid it even if the game is full of chicks.

and An0n: you're 100% right, but it also depends about the tone of the game, I think.

Vulgarity should be used in extreme situations... tense fights and so on, but if the guys wounded, then comedy is always better.

On a side note, I don't think i've looked forward to a game this much since BMX XXX :wink:

From the opposite aspect though; swearing can make you look like a brainless idiot with no imagination.

Nudity on the other hand; I can accept the naked female form as art in it's most pure form, I can't see it working in a game like this though unless it's very carefully used.

And I find it funny that people (in this case Maeg) say they can appreciate the female form purely from an artistic point of view, but are reviled by the thought of having to look at naked men.
