hello again....

um isn't your 3d card supposed to be "detected" when you click the "detect" buuton in the launcher setup tab??

I have a geForce II mx, but it won't be detecetd.......

help me please!!!!!!!

FreeSpace 1 AND 2 (!!!!!!!!!) just look so much better with real graphics....

BTW i have this problem with both FS 1 and 2...

It's very likely to be a driver problem... check your Device Manager to see if there're any problems with the card (it'll be listed under Display Adapters).

If other games work with D3D acceleration though, then the problem may indeed be FS2.

yea it does seem to work with  CS, so I thought I needed a patch, or a codec or whatever it's called....

Re-read his post.  He said Freespace, not Freespace2, looked better with "real graphics".

Anyways, what dets are you using?  I highly recommend sticking with the 40.71 set.  The later ones have nothing but issues with them. (it seems nVidia has inherited ATi's previous problem with ****ty drivers before they cleaned up their act)

i do have a "primary display driver" that works, but it looks fairly ****ty... my previous computer had the same thing, i could choose between the primary driver and the voodoo i had back then.

Umm. Is it Direct 3D - Primary Display Driver? Cause I don't know how to tell you this but that IS your 3D graphics card!

If you want to improve the graphics try the Registry Hacks from the technical section of my website. Beyond that ****ty graphics are the fault of

1) Your graphics card
2) Your monitor
3) Your eyes

?!?!?!?!?!? then why did the voodoo 2 from my old computer replace the "direct 3d primary display driver" with its own name ???? am i going nucking futs??

Maybe it depends on the card. If you were using a Voodoo card you were probably running the game under glide rather than D3D and that probably shows up differently.

As far as I'm aware you need a D3D 5 compatable 3D card to play FS2. There is no software rendering option so if it works then you're getting the 3D card's output.

ok i've done some testing...

the models of the ships look great, so that problem's gone

however, the explosions and the warps still look bad... like it's very low res or something. sounds familiar to anyone??

btw everything does seem to work perfectly in FS2..., the problem is with FS 1.

help me again please...

if your using xp right click on the freespace icon and find the tab that has capatibilty modes on. Then swtich it to a win os you know that will work with your joy/gamepad and the vid card.

it seems that the "registry hack' did the trick.  Now the only thing that's left is the fact that the stars dissappear when standing still. When i move my reticle the stars appear, but as i come to a halt, they gradually vanish: which is very annoying. Does this have anything to do with my desktop resolutyion (1152 x 864)???

nope, it's the anti-aliasing, don't know the sulotion right now, someone will tell you soon.

this is a known problem, check the VWBB too.

Yep. That's definately antialiasing. You can solve the by turning antialiasing off from the advanced section of your display properties control panel in Windows but that's kind of like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut.

I'd rather live without the stars than live without antialiasing in all my games.

if you have that nvidia media center thingy in the traybar, you can disable it from there...

ehrrm...
on the tab where you change resolutions, there's a button called "advanced" or something. click it. on the window that pops up, click the upper right tab (geforce something something).
should be there somewhere.
