As I understand it, upgrading a system like a vB or UBB is a major pain... maybe the admins are waiting for vB 3 Full (I think it's in beta ATM).

I'm also pretty sure 2.3.0 has been out for a while, the little "upgrade to so-and-so version" thing has been on my AdminCP for a while. 3s probably worth upgrading though, can a 2.x upgrade to 3?
Science alone of all the subjects contains within itself the lesson of the danger of belief in the infallibility of the greatest teachers in the preceding generation . . .Learn from science that you must doubt the experts. "...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

:wtf: You think that avatars is something new in vB3?? :wtf:

Let's put it this way... if they implement groups in such a way that each group can have its own avatar - whether through a proper avatar system or via title HTML "hacking" like we have now - and users can belong to more than one group at a time, and groups can be assigned private forum access so that all we need to do to add a new team member to XYZ project is add them to the XYZ group, we'll change the avatar system. :D

I fail to see how user-group multi-avatar support is anything special.

I'm surprised no-one has made a hack for it yet.

It's not all that special, it's simply a feature that we could really take advantage of here.

Oh, and I looked through the new features planned for vB3 - they have it, the precious, and WE WANTSSS ITT!!!11234

It's vB as well.  But SB allows user-chosen avatars, unlike here, where you get them based on what projects you belong to.

Thunder: Most groups, the people manage the avatars themselves, with limits for size and such. It's not an admin matter at all, except for the rare troll who's dumb enough to, say, shrink the goatse.cx picture down to 200x200 who lasts about a minute.

But ours also feature "badges" to ID those who work on community projects. Let people do it themselves and whats to stop someone copying all the code up and suddenly becoming part of every project there is around here? It'd get abused.

True, the current system would have that problem- though I don't know why anyone would bother, it'd be a bit like forging an ID badge and sneaking through corporate security so that you could sit in on an accounting meeting at some random company.

Yah, it would be sad - trouble is, the internet is full of that kind of people. I wouldn't like to chance it.
