Wow - I'm dumbstruck. It arrived at Blockbuster today - talk about a world-wide release!

Anyway, I thought it was.... interesting. ;) The varied perspectives were fairly enlightening, although the best ones were definitely the ones that had been released for free on the site.

Thoughts? (Matriculated was.... bizzarre)

"...The quintessential quality of our age is that of dreams coming true. Just think of it. For centuries we have dreamt of flying; recently we made that come true: we have always hankered for speed; now we have speeds greater than we can stand: we wanted to speak to far parts of the Earth; we can: we wanted to explore the sea bottom; we have: and so  on, and so on: and, too, we wanted the power to smash our enemies utterly; we have it. If we had truly wanted peace, we should have had that as well. But true peace has never been one of the genuine dreams - we have got little further than preaching against war in order to appease our consciences. The truly wishful dreams, the many-minded dreams are now irresistible - they become facts." - 'The Outward Urge' by John Wyndham

"The very essence of tolerance rests on the fact that we have to be intolerant of intolerance. Stretching right back to Kant, through the Frankfurt School and up to today, liberalism means that we can do anything we like as long as we don't hurt others. This means that if we are tolerant of others' intolerance - especially when that intolerance is a call for genocide - then all we are doing is allowing that intolerance to flourish, and allowing the violence that will spring from that intolerance to continue unabated." - Bren Carlill

They're different from the ones on the website?

I thought those were dumb, at least the first one. Didn't seem to go with the Matrix at all. Any bullet-time?

Dumb? Second Renaisance was a bit iffy, but Program and Detective Story pwned

I quite liked the Second Rennaissance, 'cos it's just so bloody bleak!

They could've come up with a better name for that rebel robot though, rather than a 1337ised "Bigger"

[color=66ff00]I was quite impressed by the first 6 overall, some of it was simply eye candy but kid's story and rennaissance impressed me, they were thought provoking. Animatrix is great if you like interesting artistic styles IMHO.

Final Flight of the Osiris was two years in the making and it looks one of the best CGI's I've ever seen... something to rival the Final Fantasy movie CGI animation (though not quite as good).

I for one am picking up this when it hits the shops on DVD.

I liked it. Faves are Osiris, 2nd renneisance. The other were way too depressing for me. Except Kids story. Which was neat, but odd at the same time.
I have returned... Again...

It should have been, so far as I know it was Square that did the animation.

No need for video cause over in the UK they have been showing the episodes on TV.

That said for some weird reason they've been showing them at 12 am and I missed The Kid which means I've now got to wait until it comes out on the web or someone posts it on usenet.

Didn't much like 2nd Rennaissance much. Not cause there was anything actually wrong with the vid itself but
Spoiler:
cause it made me sympathsise with the machines :D I mean the machines tried real hard to co-exist with the humans and just continually got killed, nuked and generally shat upon from a great height. I couldn't really blame them for wiping humanity out completely in return. What they eventually did seems quite lenient in comparison.
It was a lot easier to be on the side of Neo, Trinity and the rest when it seemed like the machines had just decided to enslave humankind for not being AIs.

I honestly liked the Animatrix much, much more than Reloaded. It had more of the sense of mystery, wonder, and thought-provoking situations than Reloaded, which seemed like nothing but a parody.

I liked all the ones I've seen (the online ones), for now my favourite might be a detective's story ( coz it was artistically brilliant ). also the second part of renaissance, I dunno about you, but we""hn those soldiers were slaughered ( like the one trapped in his powersuit, which is cut in pieces, then a metalic tentacles comes and removes the guy from the machine, reapping his rams and legs in the process ), it almost physically hurt me ( help me!!!! ahhhhh!!!! ), altho the design is odd, the thing looked more real than most live movies, it was so...  cool :D

I dunno if it looked more real. But it sounded more real! Which in turn made it more real. I mean the way the guy screamed! I wonder if the y put a gun to the head of the voice actor and just said "scream for me."

It even got me to feel hurt when I saw it. It was almost like watching real war footage. And yeah, I also started to feel sorry for the machines, but in the end the machines did what humans did too, that is enslave humans. So I don't really care for them anymore.

Yeah, the two must disturbing scenes in 2nd reneisance was when they beat up and shot that robot woman in part 1 and then the battle in part 2 with the guy getting ripped out. Quite depressing....
I have returned... Again...

the 2nd renaissance also told us that not every human was opposed to living with the AIs.

maybe that's why they were 'lenient'?

I liked the 2nd rennasiance, 2 things did erk me somewhat, firstly they killed a good deal of the machines then let them set up a seperate city with R&D and production facilities and didnt expect them to retaliate at a later date??

2ndly the bit where they block out the sunlight...... yes Morpheus told us about it in the first film but didnt anyone think it didnt achieve anything at all? Ok it was a desperate final act but even the machines that were ment to be solar powered carried on attacking and they suddenly had new human powered machines on stand by behind them!

It would have been cool if the robot attacks had subsided for a while but due to the scouring of the sky they came out with the big human harvesting machines.

The storyline was pretty cool, but I was just gobsmacked by Osiris. I know, I know, nowadays if you can imagine it you can render and animate it, but... it still amazes me.

I've seen the 4 online ones. And Detective story was the best one. I wasn't so much into the other ones... those were ok.
Habeeb it...

Final flight of the Osiris could/should have been at the start of the Matrix Reloaded itself, as it said in the making-of. It was just like the film itself.

I liked the Animatrix on the whole, not really for the artwork (of which i preferd the detective's), but for the extension of the story in the film, and how it expands on it and gives us more depth to the Matrix universe - just like the starwars magazines etc.
