OK, so, it seems not everyone here is as well versed in the ways of Space: Above And Beyond as me. In an effort to attract unenlightened HLPers to the wonders of S:AAB, I was wondering what the legal implications would be if I stuck a couple of episodes of S:AAB up for download somewhere.

Now, the show aired back in 1995 and Fox never released it on video or DVD, so technically they wouldn't be losing money if I did arrange this. Does anyone know if the law allows me to do this?

(NB. no need to point out the difficulties in hosting 200mb+ of tv show)

[color=66ff00]Fox networks would quite quickly jump in with law threats, have you ever seen what they did to sites offering something a simple as simpsons icons? Personally I'd say that it's a bad idea to openly host eps.

There's a reason why you have to use kazaa and the like to get that kind of thing...

But there are thousand of sites crammed with Simpsons stuff, that's ludicrous!

How the hell can anything have a fan base if it immediatlry gets smacked down as a breach of copyright!

[color=66ff00]Not every company is as adamant as Fox. I have numerous examples from around the net of Fox's law hijinks if you need an example.

Hmm. And yet TV-captured CD sets of the complete series are sold on Ebay every day, quite openly and without a hint of complaint form any kind of authority... do you think it's worth me asking Fox?

No, don't ask them, just do it and if they tell you to take it down, take it down without a fight.

That's what I would do, but I have a knack for getting into trouble...

OK, so if I did put it up and hope Fox didn't notice, would you HLP admins mind me telling all of HLP about in the public forums?

[color=66ff00]Without knowing the legal implications of this I'd have to say no at present, if you can find some kind of disclaimer that proves it's legal then no worries but to risk it and have gamespy caution us or worse...

would be a bad, bad idea. When you thnk things like the ALien TC for quake were forced to give up coz they used scanned materials for, say, the xenomorphs textures...
