Neither happened to me with my Cyborg, while I've been using it for almost two years.

My Wingman Extreme lasted me a good 2.5-3 years before the r(X) axis started to go and I had to replace it with my Freedom 2.4 joystick.

Mmm.... Cordless.....

Or a Force 3D since the stick is exactly the same on both joysticks.

I've had the same joystick (Wingman extreme) for 8+ years.

Meh.:doubt: Unimpressive. He should have used fewer monitors, around 9 (three front, two side, three back, LCD top). demolish about 3 keyboards and re arranged them around the cockpit as buttons to press. Built the cockpit frame out of wood so it surrounds you and you're in the dark except for the light from the screens and a some halogen light cables for under the button panels. NOW THAT would be the ultimate FS2 cockpit as well for any other flight sim out there.

*drools...*
I have returned... Again...

Discard the monitors, build a decent virtual cockpit inside Freespace itself - and use a VR-Helmet.
Arrange keyboards, so they overlap the actuall VR-cocpit.
The two could actually be synchronised based on the helmets position using some laser-distance measure gismo....
....and I just got started - how about a decent seat with built in sticks and high-powered hydraulic suspension....
ect. Erm....for all that....
I think we should contact the army.

As my mother would say:

"There's one thing that's always in shortage.
 Money, honey."
